I was just looking for a simple window to replace the old octagon in my Tower Room. And then I found this beauty. I loved its hint of a stained glass past, with the thin decorative mullions sandwiched between beveled glass panes.
Even though this window's frame is vinyl, it's a massive, heavy unit. This increased the challenge of using it to replace a window ten feet above the floor. Its measurements precisely matched those in the product description, but we still had to adjust our rough-in opening. There are 20 screw openings around the mounting rim, and we used twelve of them. Much to our relief, our original trim pieces matched the new window perfectly. My installer complained about having to trim the plastic edges on the octagonal corners, but under normal conditions, these would not have affected the installation.
The packaging for this heavy window was completely inadequate to the task. It arrived in one flimsy cardboard box, with only lightweight foam pieces to hold it in place. Some where in shipping, the box must have fallen on a corner, because when we opened it, the foam pieces were broken, and one corner of the vinyl mounting strip bent. Home Depot was very generous in making us whole on this, and a hair dryer straightened the bend out. But the manufacturer should care more about their product! Double-boxing with sturdy foam inserts between the two layers would have saved us all a lot of trouble and expense.
It's truly a beautiful window, though, and I'm so glad that "The Depot" offered it. You know what? Think I'll add a stick-on window film, and turn it into a REAL stained glass treat!
