Answer:
Yes, it is adjustable at the mid way connections. I'm not sure what the inches are, but it can be brought up.......look on the box, I think it tells you.

Yes the adjustment to 24 inches is possible, the down supports are drilled every 2 inches. Mounting the storage unit above the "overhead door" is more complicated than just measuring from ceiling to rails. If your door has an opener then that rail has to be considered also and the travel the door arc makes as it follows the guide rails. I don't know your situation, whether you have double doors or a single door. I would hate to give you a simple answer to your question and then have you angry with me for not warning you about the other possibilities. Your garage ceiling must be greater than 8 ft. to have that space above the door rails, my ceiling is only 8 ft. and I had to shorten the distance because I didn't want my family bumping their heads. Good luck with your installation I hope my answer helps and hope it wasn't info you did not need. Read Less

Answer:
I can't see why not. But I'm thinking you would have to switch to metal screws/bolts instead of the wood ones included. The idea would seem to be the same for support and I'm thinking the metal joists with the right screws/bolts would be sound. I would call your builder for an engineering answer......but from a diyer, I'd say yes..........with the right screws/bolts.

Answer:
I have NO idea, but my guess is that ANYTHING that has a color but white seems to cost more!!! WHY?????? WHO KNOWS. I have the white ones since I think they look nicer, but maybe in a dusty area the black would be better.......or in a guy domain. I chose price over color.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 202 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product, confusing directions! I purchased 3 of these storage racks. It is designed to mount directly into the cross members of your ceiling strut system. My system is on 24" centers, thus the bracing for the 45" platform would not expand to the second rafter at 48"... I had to stare at it for a while, then finally drilled the holes and mounted the frame on the 24" position... low and behold, it works. I still would have preferred the ability to spread out the weight distribution to the second (48") rafter. I have all 3 units installed and am considering a fourth. The unit is well made, looks good and is actually a quick install if you don't get wrapped around some confusing instructions. BTW, the box is small, so my initial impression of the packaging was that it was that I would not like the product. The product was laid out tightly in the package and easily removed and assembled.. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by I had NO idea that these even existed. I now have 6 of them and they are the best idea since sliced bread!!! Although, I couldn't put them up as fast as the box indicated (I'm 52 and OLD, ha!), but I did get 'em up there and they work perfectly!!! It has saved ALOT of space in my garage I'm bettin' I'll even get my car BACK IN THE GARAGE!!!!! YEA!!! If you need more space, the ceiling is the best idea. Up our of the way, yet easily accessible and critters, etc can't get into them!!! October 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by excellent buy Very easy to assemble. Extra hardware included. This over head shelf can be install by one person but it does help to have an extra hand. I recommend doing most of the assembly on the garage floor. Once you hang the two support post proceed with installing the shelves. Don't forget to leave access to your stored items from more than one side. I installed my ceiling storage shelves in the middle of the garage as to have access from two sides. Best of luck. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great product - wrong installation dimensions on box for tools needed Compared to the much pricier shelves of equal style, these are great value for the price. I actually installed these in my basement hanging from the rafters instead since I have dampness and water issues. This has allowed for storage to stay safely away from any potential water damage and keep the floor drier as well since there is no low shelving to trap moisture underneath it. Unfortunately, the sizes of tools needed for the job listed on the box are completely incorrect. You will need a larger drill bit that is labeled, and the driver is a 1/2 inch, which is also listed incorrectly on the box. This required a second trip back to Home Depot in order to finish installation as I had bought the tool sizes listed on the box. Since I had opened them, I could now not return them either. That really annoyed and frustrated me, so that is my warning for those looking to purchase and install these shelves. The only thing I dont like about these shelves themselves is that if you are not installing these in a corner or immediately against a wall, they will swing as you push boxes onto them at the joints of the arms. I am going to install a back stop brace behind the one to keep it from swinging away from me each time I push a box onto it. The bolts in the arms are all tight, they just aren't sturdy enough arms to keep the shelf steady when you are moving things on the shelf or loading them. September 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by What I wanted Lightweight, easy to install, and holds lightweight items. September 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Open Storage Unit Easy to install with enough flexibility in the brackets to allow for some degree of tolerances. Perfect for storing window screens in the garage ceiling. September 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well made and easy to install by one person This is perfect for adding valuable storage space in my crowded garage. And it fits nicely over the open garage door. I appreciate the range of sizes available. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Space creator! After a move, my garage was driving me nuts...packed boxes, stepladders, folding tables - all sorts of impediments to movement and utility and a very real safety hazard. I bought two of these, and installed and loaded them up in an afternoon. What a difference! Law and order has been restored to my garage! My only complaint is that my HD store didn't stock them, so I had to wait a couple days for a special order (which came off without a hitch). August 16, 2016
