Answer:
Yes the adjustment to 24 inches is possible, the down supports are drilled every 2 inches. Mounting the storage unit above the "overhead door" is more complicated than just measuring from ceiling to rails. Yes the adjustment to 24 inches is possible, the down supports are drilled every 2 inches. Mounting the storage unit above the "overhead door" is more complicated than just measuring from ceiling to rails. If your door has an opener then that rail has to be considered also and the travel the door arc makes as it follows the guide rails. I don't know your situation, whether you have double doors or a single door. I would hate to give you a simple answer to your question and then have you angry with me for not warning you about the other possibilities. Your garage ceiling must be greater than 8 ft. to have that space above the door rails, my ceiling is only 8 ft. and I had to shorten the distance because I didn't want my family bumping their heads. Good luck with your installation I hope my answer helps and hope it wasn't info you did not need. Read Less

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 196 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well made and easy to install by one person This is perfect for adding valuable storage space in my crowded garage. And it fits nicely over the open garage door. I appreciate the range of sizes available. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Space creator! After a move, my garage was driving me nuts...packed boxes, stepladders, folding tables - all sorts of impediments to movement and utility and a very real safety hazard. I bought two of these, and installed and loaded them up in an afternoon. What a difference! Law and order has been restored to my garage! My only complaint is that my HD store didn't stock them, so I had to wait a couple days for a special order (which came off without a hitch). August 16, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ceiling storage excellent idea for getting storage up and off the floor. could use a longer support bracket for screwing into the ceiling for added support. we purchased 90 degree brackets for each of the supports and modified attaching to ceiling with 8 bolts rather than 4 September 2, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Exatly what I needed Extremely easy installation and does the job I needed, gave me added storage space. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great storage racks These racks take advantage of unused space. Easy to install once you figure out where your beams are. Should have bought these years ago. I chose to go out and spend 4 dollars on some longer lag bolts because my ceiling had doubled up sheet rock...but really like these racks.... August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Shelves We are thrilled with these. They were easy to install and assemble and look great in the garage. August 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what we needed! Easy to install and works as advertised. Gave us back some much needed space! January 2, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Storage where you least expect it. Great product! Easy to assemble. Of course, anytime you're measuring holes for drilling in the ceiling it's not a lot of fun. The directions said to drill the mounting holes at 44 1/4 inches. Only after I had marked everything on the ceiling did I notice the template on the outside of the box. Pretty handy.... except the pre-marked holes in the template were spaced at 43 7/8 inches. I thought that was interesting. But I went with what I had marked and now I have two of these hanging above one side of my double garage door. And because they are above the garage door I was limited to just one of the hanging links. Because of this I lost about 12 inches of height. But I plan on putting two more on the other side of the garage door. One word of advice, when assembling the grid units make sure you have the longitudinal ribs all on the same side. Money well spent. June 22, 2016
