Customer Questions & Answers

battery charger

does this generator charge 12 volt batteries and come with the cables to do so?
Asked by: ron
Yes. But, amperage is limited. It would be more efficient to use an actual battery charger with a relatively high output and take advantage of the 2000 watt 120 volt a/c output.

Can it be linked with second generator like the honda eu2000 to double the usable output

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Sucks! It worked when it was delivered. Seemed like a nice unit. Took it out camping 3 weeks later and it malfunctioned after only 1 hour of use. Very low output, engine won't come up to speed and ECO throttle inoperative. Of course that was right after HDs 30 day return limit based on when the product was ordered. Hyundai warranty guy's won't respond and I'm not happy at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Generator Took it out of the box added oil and gas, it started first pull. Put a 15 amp 1800 watt load on it and it worked fine. Over the next two days it got harder and harder to start until it wouldn't start at all. Replaced the spark plug and it started first pull every time it was tried for the next week. Whether it's cold or hot it still needs the choke on to start, if it's cold slowly bring the choke to half until it warms up, if it's hot you have to get the choke off real quick or it'll quit. Put it away until the next power outage. It appears well made. Maybe Honda is better but I paid 595.00 Honda was 1399.00 for 1600 watt output Hyundai is 2000 watt output. If I get to run it steady for a few days I'll let you know how it performed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice at first, then problems This unit started out great, took it camping and did fine. After the first year was extremely difficult to start. Now, it will not run in ECO mode. It just sputters and dies, can only run at full speed. Warranty is a joke. Called the number and got someones personal voicemail, left a msg and never heard back. I wish I could return this junk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Economical, quiet, small and light weight. I use this generator to power my motorhome, it's quiet and light enough for one person to easily load. The electric start works great for my wife (she did not like the pull start on our old generator). For all you campers out there put away those construction generator's and pick up one of these. It run's my 12000 btu air conditioner no problem, and on eco mode will charge your batteries for over 8 hours on a single tank of gas (4.5 litres). Here's hoping I "won't hear" lot's of these camping this summer !!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not work from box. Bought online. Fast delivery. Good packaging. Follow the instruction from manual. Did not started. The problem was the primer bulb not working. It did not move fuel to line and engine. I guess that without gas in engine it’s hard to start it. Going to return it ASAP. I think they have quality inspection problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for Camping with RV I bought this generator when it was $698 CAD on sale just about 3 weeks ago. I youtube it and to this date, their are no youtube video on the HY2800SEI, I will try to post a video when I have a moment. my option was to buy this or the Energizer 2800 Inverter (after seeing one in action at a provincial campground, I was not impressed by the EZV2800 noise level, so decided to get the HY2800SI instead) Delivery: it delivered to my home in Nova Scotia via UPS within 4 business days, when I open the box it came with a bottle of oil, a little funnel to help pour the oil, a multi purpose tool/screw driver, a spare spark plug, a battery charger, a pipe to help change the oil, 2 keys and a user manual. Starting it: I filled it up with gas (also added the recommended fuel stabilizer), primed it 30 times, filled it up with oil and it started, however it was very smokey and the Overload light was flashing. Once I figured out how to use the choke, all was good. When the choke is not use properly, the Overload light (red) start flashing and the generator does not produce any power. To make it more confusing, the french label for the "Overload light" is named "Ready to Use"... so for someone bilingual like me, it was confusing. Using it: I bought it so I could go dry camping with my 29 ft trailer and run my 13.5K BTU air conditioner if I ever wanted to. I don`t really need it as I have solar panels and 2 batteries, however I did try running my a/c unit for a good hour and I had no issue, I even was able to put it on eco mode once it was started. Sound: It is definitely more noisy then the Honda 2000 inverter (a little more then the 65db advertised too). But for the cost and from talking to other campers, they definitely support my investment and would have done the same. It is much quieter then any of the little non-inverter generators that I saw at my campground and from my experience it is quieter then the EZV2800 or the Powerfist 3000W from another canadian store. weight: heavy at 75+ lbs, good thing it only takes 5 litres of fuel, so total is more like 90 lbs. Still compact for its price. Challenges: the only tricky situation that I experience (new user issue), was that if I did not turn the fuel line off immediately after using it, the next time that I try to use it, it sounds like it is flooded and it is very difficult to start. Since then, I have been turning the fuel line off after usage and never had that same issue. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone, my only concern is the weather proofing, it says not to have it exposed to any moisture (rain/snow). So that makes it a little tricky when camping. But it does fit under my slide out. fingers cross that I don`t have any issues as I plan on using it again in a week.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disapointed first one I had could not get it to start, took it back to store and was given a replacement, it was hard to start and some times wouldn't. It would not of burnt 10 gallons of gas and stopped making ac power the repair shop told me the part was over 400 dollars plus 2 hours labor making it not worthy fixing. Spend more money and get a Honda.
