What is the maximum safe deflection of this spring under load? In other words, if it starts out being 24 inches, how long does the spring become when being stretched with 140 pounds pulling on it?
Asked by: Ty
The spring can be stretched/extended to 67" (end to end). Or it will be safe to extend it by 42". Do not extend more than that, otherwise, the spring will be permanently stretched and damaged, or even broken.

Easy to apply to the existing door and fit perfectly. Door functioned like new when complete. One of my easiest home repairs lately. With a little common sense you can fix your garage door yourself. If you have any hesitation at all ... call a pro, because you could get hurt!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved time and money now and in future I faced an expensive and time-consuming repair of the broken torsion-spring balance system (NOT from Home Depot) on my garage door. With these springs, and cables and pulleys also available from Home Depot, I was able to refit the door easily and quickly with the pictured, tension-spring system. All springs wear out over years, but in future I will be able to replace only the springs, not an entire torsion system, for even greater saving of time and money.
