Product Overview

The IDEAL Security Wireless Water & Flood Detector system eliminates the need for costly and recurring monthly monitoring fees. With this detector, the system calls you. A water detector connected to a telephone system may be able to provide advance notice of a problem and may help reduce the damage that water can do. The sensor detects water and sends a wireless signal to the telephone dialer for quick notification, while the dialer stores and calls up to five different telephone numbers to alert (land line and electricity are required for the dialer). The receiver of the alarm call will hear a series of beeps indicating which zone has had an alarm. Both local and long-distance calls can be made to land phones, mobile phones or pagers, and up to 22 additional wireless devices and eight remote controls can be added to the system for further security. Other sensors include motion, temperature and door and window contacts.

  • Wireless sensor detects water, sounds alarm and sends signal to the dialer, which can store and call five phone numbers up to five times
  • Receivers of alarm calls will hear beep sounds (four styles) indicating a problem; call display on receiver's phone is recommended to determine from where call is originating
  • 22 IDEAL sensors, sirens and eight remote controls can be linked to the dialer
  • Dialer can store sensors in up to four zones and beeps will identify zones
  • Backup battery provides limited service during a power failure, which may provide early notice to help prevent serious damage to your home
  • Maximum range from sensor to telephone dialer is 40 meters (130 ft.); sensor wire is 6 ft. (2 meters)
  • Batteries and connections included (operates on 9-volt battery)

Answer:
Yes, the SK642 needs a land line (PSTN) for dialing out the pre-programmed telephone numbers. It can be used as a siren or door chime as well if you don't want it to dial out when linked sensors were triggered. It is recommended to use the included AC adapter to power up the dialer.

Says dialer needs electricity but has battery backup. Will it work in a power outage? If so, for how long?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thank you, thank you, saved me a lot of grief! Works great! I have sensors installed in my basement in case I have a problem with my sump pumps. We just had a lot of rain and one of my pumps worked properly but couldn't keep up with all the water. The other pump failed to work because of a defective switch and because the the first pump couldn't handle all the water, I started to get water coming up through the basement slab. Just got a very small amount and it set off the alarm. I was sleeping, but believe me, it woke me up! I plugged the non-working pump directly into an outlet and the water level went down very quickly. I would have had a big mess and a lot of damage, so I,m very glad I installed this alarm system. Thanks for a great product!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excelent product Works perfectly. Loud siren that can be heard all over the house. The call feature works perfectly. No false alarms. Instruction booklet is a little complicated but with all its features this is understandable. If you follow instructions you won't have any trouble. I have added a second remote alarm and plan to add a third in the near future. The only recommendation I would make to the manufacturer is to have the alarm or the chime continue until it is acknowledged. Currently the alarm siren only cycles twice for 30 to 40 seconds each but the siren is very very loud. If you happen to be out of the house without your phone and come back home and don't look at the auto dialer you might not know that you have a leak. Having the dialer dialing several numbers when a leak occurs does limit this shortcoming. All things considered I am very pleased with this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ordered two units, one was DOA I like this device. I ordered two after we experienced a water supply rupture which put a couple inches of water in our lower level. Unfortunately, the first unit failed right out of the box. The second unit worked and continues to work. I'm a bit concerned that there may be a defect that could show up on the working unit at some time in the future. I have returned the failed unit and will replace it. Monthly testing and the passage of time will make me feel more comfortable that these units are stable. I agree with an earlier review that these units are a bit cumbersome to setup, but once you understand the procedures, it's easy to navigate the menu and setup phone alerts, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Happy with the Purchase Programmed the units and tested them - all OK. Very good value for the money. My water sensor is positioned by the sump pump, in case of pump failure. My only disappointment is that the telephone dialer is supposed to tell you which sensor (I have both water and temperature), and I can't tell by the "beeps" which sensor has set off the alarm, but this is a minimal concern to me, as all I really have to know is that something is wrong, and I need to call a friend to look in on my house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Peace of MInd After two sump pump failures and a flooded basement as a result, this product is exactly what we needed for our peace of mind. Set-up was fairly simple of you take your time and read the directions. Our landline is on the second floor, opposite end of the house from the sump pump and I was pleased that the signal was able to go that far. I tested the phone call option and that also works. So, if we are away fro the house we can just contact someone close to home and they can hopefully correct the issue. Both times the sump pump failed, we were home so this would have save us a lot of headaches.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I searched for reviews on this product, but they were hard to come by so I figured I would give my 2 cents. This purchase was the product of a couple flood mishaps. I bought it for it's warning system (phone calls). I have a land line (required) and this plugs directly into it. I have a sump with city water backup and this thing should those pumps fail. I have tested the system, and it is fantastic - VERY loud sirens (on/off toggle) and the phone calls are made within a minute of sensor activation. I received a phone call from the dialer with nothing but "beeps" to identify which sensor was activated. The setup was simple enough - akin to changing computer monitor settings. Read the 7-8 pages and you will be good to go. The best part of this product is how well it works - but the difference maker here is that you can add-on to this unit with separate sensors to use for door, window and heat alarms. I will be purchasing additional sensors for windows and doors. For my (admittedly) limited experience with home alarm systems, this is the best bang for the buck. It feels like a self-serve alarm company where you notify people about flood/break-in problems as opposed to having a dedicated agent call you to check on you. If you don't want monthly bills for a professional alarm company but need some extra peace of mind, get this product.
