Product Overview

The IHeat Electric Tankless Water Heater Model S-14 has the capacity of heating 3 GPM which is the equivalent to 2 showers (at 1.5 GPM each), or 1 Shower and 3 sinks (at 0.50 GPM each) simultaneously, or any combination which equals to 3.0 GPM. The S-14 can handle these applications in the warmer climates of the US which are Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Arizona, California, Alabama, and Mississippi. Anything north of these States the Model S-14 can be used for point of use, or 2 to 3 applications at a time equaling 3 GPM. A good rule of thumb is if you live in the southern states mentioned here the S-14 can power a 1 to 3 bedroom 1 to 2 bathroom home, including dishwasher and clothes washer, please keep in mind that tankless water heaters are designed to heat incoming water at a maximum output temperature based on simultaneous use and inlet water temperatures. So if your demand for hot water decreases your output water temperatures will increase, as well as if you live in the colder states this S-14 will heat less volume of water, this will cause the S-14 to be used in Point of Use applications in the colder climates.

Can this product be installed in the current location of a tank water heater (instead of right next to the shower)

I'd like to replace a tank water heater with this product - in the same utility closet, which is about 18 feet away from the shower. Thanks!
Asked by: Dave
It should work fine. It produces as much hot water as a small (about 20 gallon), conventional water heater.

Asked by: Tone
No venting required, but it does get hot so don't put it right next to anything combustible.

I bought this water heater to only supply hot water to a washing machine and dishwasher and so far it's working fairly well. I've been running it for two weeks now so I can't comment on longevity. Currently I have two issues with this water heater. The first issue I have is that when it kicks on it draws so much power that it causes all the LED lights in my entire house to strobe. They don't blink or flicker. They strobe. I feel like I'm in a dance club or horror movie every time I turn on the hot water and it continues until I turn it back off. I know this is a common issue with most tankless water heaters so I'm not knocking off a star for it. My electrician says there isn't a fix for it. I am knocking off a half star because I contacted IHEAT about the problem and they NEVER contacted me back. That's a big red flag for me and makes me really nervous about the future of this product. Good customer service is everything these days. MY other problem with this water heater is when it reaches the set temperature after a few seconds the temperature instantly drops to cold again then climbs back up to the set temperature again. I don't know why this happens but it's annoying. If I'm rinsing dishes in the sink with hot water this is what happens. It takes roughly 5 seconds for the heater to heat the water to the desired temp so it takes me about 15 seconds to get the hot water to my sink. Then after about 2 seconds of hot water the water temp drops to cold coming out of the faucet for about 10 seconds then it's hot again. It stays hot until I turn the faucet off. It's not really a big deal but I worry that my washing machine isn't washing with hot water but only warm water because of the drop in temp and the time it takes to get the hot water to my washer. Same goes for my dishwasher. So for that reason I knocked off another half star. I would have asked customer service about this but they never got back to me. The only reason I chose this water heater over other brands is because the company is local to me. If it breaks down and I can't get customer service to call me back then I can drive to their business and knock on their door with a broken water heater in hand.

I bought this to replace a small, conventional water heater that served one shower and sink in an apartment in my house. Other brands were either too big or too small; this one was just right. I was concerned that it might not raise the water temperature enough here in Washington but it produces very hot water. Another cool thing is it's small enough to fit between the studs. The only thing is, I can't figure out how to regulate the temperature on the unit, but otherwise, it's perfect. I purchased a scale filter to go with it to prolong the life and insulated the wooden access door to prevent freezing (it's on an outside wall, as shown in the picture). Note that you will need a 220 volt, 60 amp circuit to power this little guy.

I have it in my bed and breakfast guest house and it allows my guests to take back to back HOT showers. I have a water saver shower head on that puts out 1.5 GPM so this unit more than keeps up with demand. It heats up quickly and it takes up a very small footprint and plumbing is a snap. The 60 amp service provides plenty of power. This was the best choice for my application where as a gas unit required additional exterior venting and additional under house gas line plumbing that I didn't want to tackle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy Mine malfunctioned so I called the manufacturer. They don't return calls or emails. When I finally got someone who claimed he was the owner, he was very rude and insisted I needed to pay for another heater then send mine back and I could get my money back. Don't purchase from a company that doesn't stand behind their products.

There are only two of us and have a 100 amp main with a 60 amp breaker for the hot water. We didn't figure we needed much but past experiences with tankless heaters taught us that we at least wanted to get a full flow shower. We have it with this one! It delivers what it says! Of course, if you run water any where while in the shower it effects the temperature, but it will bounce back right away. So only do one thing at a time :) With only two of us, this is easily done. Hook up was a breeze with new push fittings on the market. I gave this water heater a four because I voided the warranty by hooking it up myself. With such a simple hook up, I'm disappointed with that. I also haven't had this very long and would like to know if people are still pleased after a couple years. One last thing, we have some of the "cleanest" city water in Ohio and still need a filter before it goes into the water heater because of chemicals and sediment. Do yourself a favor and put one in beforehand and a back flow valve. This should make it last a couple extra years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Trust your licensed plumber! Installed this guy into a customers one bathroom cabin. It's only half inch so it's not a family of five solution for hot water (could be if used correctly). Removed their old style tank heater and installed this guy. Customer can now take never ending hot showers. This is perfect if only using one thing at a time, shower or sink. If you try to use two things a slight temp drop will occur. worked perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Return Policy After the electric version of this water heater was ordered, my friend changed his mind and decided to install a propane version instead. The Home Depot store the product was delivered to took back the unneeded version with absolutely no hassle and promptly returned my payment. Its nice to know that the company still maintains a great return policy even for its online customers.
