Can I get a diode?

I had an electrician install/replace my doorbell. I was told that since this one was digital and the old one wasn't, the button would have to be held in to hear the complete chime. He even offered to make me a label with his label maker. I just read the instructions on the product page (the original packaging, instructions, etc are long gone) and saw that this has to do with a diode being used in the push button. Apparently the electrician had no idea what the part was for and didn't use it. I've since replaced the doorbell button in hopes that it would be fixed. Is there any way to get a hold of another diode to try to fix my problem? It would be nice to hear the entire chime instead of zzzzt (if that). Any help would be appreciated.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by iT Chimes Like a Pro First, this is super easy to install with an existing chime wire setup. You simply take off the old chime, screw in the backing of this one and hook up the two wires. One comes from the Garage transformer relay (which) you should already have if using existing setup. The second wire comes from the switch on the door. This has two screws to easily mount and once on the front cover face plate goes on top to cover the mechanism. The door chime has adjustable volume and several ringtone settings. It is very fancy sounding for the price and I get many complements on the unit and the sound of the doorbell. I've had mine for about 2 years now and it's still working and looking great. Cheers and Vidimo Se! Zavi September 27, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by IQ America Model DW-2860 Wired Doorbell 8-note Westminster Hooked up doorbell and the rear bell works fine. The front bell does not work. Tried installing diode in both directions. Still does not work. I was an electronic technician for years and this circuit does not make sense. The diode going across the door bell switch will still allow voltage to flow through the circuit as a half wave since this is an AC circuit and the diode will only allow current to flow in one direction. A voltage measurement shows voltage at about 10 volts or half of the 18 VAC coming from the transformer which is to be expected if the current only flows half the time. Also my lighted door switch will not light since the current is only flowing through it half the time because of the diode. Reinstalled the old door bell and it works. I will be returning this doorbell and would not recommend it to others. May 15, 2015

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Product OK . Could have better sound. A very attractive door bell. Took about 45 minutes to install. The chimes work OK but sound kind of tinny. April 9, 2013
