The plastic mounting bracket is cheap and breaks easily. It broke just after I got it out of the package and was trying to separate it from the rest of the doorbell. You must do this for installation. Looks like a few others have had similar problems.

What the heck? Absolutely no instructions? Who makes a product like that? Reading the reviews say to stick a small flathead screwdriver to release the plastic back. But does is slide off or pop off? I'm returning this to HD per if there are no instructions, I really question the quality of this thing. Boooo.

As others have mentioned the instructions are severely lacking. Releasing the clip is tedious, and the backlight could be better . The unit itself is nice, and if there was an internet site referenced with installation instructions, I'd easily recommend this unit to a friend.

I bought this button because I wanted something that looks nicer than the cheap $5 plastic one and this was the next best thing.
At first I couldn't figure out how to remove the plastic mounting base. The instructions don't tell you how to do this but I finally figured out you need to use a small flat blade screwdriver or something narrow to poke into the hole on the bottom to release the locking tab. After that the installation was easy. The mounting system could be a little tighter but I'm not too worried about it. -1 star for poor instructions and making me look it up on the internets.
The internal light shines through the plastic base which is kinda neat but the light doesn't diffuse very well which creates a bright spot.

Guess it would pay to read the reviews on about everything you buy - if I had I would not have purchased this doorbell button. It looked good, had a nice heft to it and a nice finish, but, exactly as everyone else has said, the plastic mounting plate is just flat junk. The plastic clip that is supposed to snap into place into the back of the metal button assembly once you install the mounting plate to the wall just doesn't work. It seems to get bent up a bit (I didn't dare try to bend it back down for fear it would break) or something because it won't hold the metal button assembly tight against the wall. Poor design is all it is. The button itself is nice, but if you can't mount it securely what good is it? Not recommended. Oh, the guy in Customer Service at Home Depot mentioned they've seen a lot of these coming back. No hassle from Home Depot - I picked out a more conventional button with external screws (cheaper).

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Rhondais Great little button that lights up for our guests
We had a few extra challenges on getting our doorbell issue worked out, but this was a key piece of the solution. It was a simple installation and with the interior light, it made it easy to determine when it went "live". It works just great!

Turns out I bought one exactly like this one a year ago and it fell off the wall. Granted it was on stone which was not level. The design flaw is in the two small plastic clips that holds the face plate on. I decided to redesign the one I had and took the other one back and HD gladly refunded my money. This product is probably okay for flat out-of-the-way surfaces.
