Seems like this kit works well with 1/4" brass tube. Is the 1" tube much thicker than the 1/4" tube? Can the saddle valve puncture through the 1" brass tube?

Answer:
It is possible to attach to brass line but you will probably have to drill a 1/4" hole first though

The saddle valve can be installed on up to 1-1/4” copper tubing. It should not be used on brass pipe.

There is a nut/ferrule assembly that allows you to connect water line to valve. Usually supplied with kits.

Answer:
It comes with a brass compression nut and sleeve, however, I would still buy this kit and go to a hardware store and ask for a better nut with a plastic washer. Throw out the junk ones that come with this kit. Its an extra $1 and it was save you time and a mess.

What water line material is the saddle valve made for?

I have a 25 year old house. The water lines aren't copper or pvc. The material looks like gray heavy duty water hose material. In the past when I've had to make a change, I've had to cut in copper or pvc. Would the saddle valve work with my water lines or would I have to cut in 1/2 in. copper?

Rated 3.4 out of 5 by 36 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by cheap and easy, but you'll pay for it later The problem with these plastic tubes is that they have a seam in them. It might take months, it might take years, but it will develop a pinhole leak along that seam. In my case, it has happened three times in the past year. The first time, I shortened the tube and reattached it to the fridge. The second time, the leak was further from the fridge, so I bought a brass coupler, cut out a few inches where the leak was, and put the coupler in. the third time, I finally replaced the whole thing with braided stainless steel. Of course it ruined my laminate floor in the kitchen, along with two ceiling tiles in the basement below. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $10 to avoid much more expensive repairs. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by fittings need improvement. The product looks ok but the fittings dont work for this kind of hose. Im returning this item June 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by fit my needs. worked I needed this kit because I needed the longer hose. The other kits available have a much shorter (6 foot) hose. The first furrel I used leaked. the second one I used worked fine. Be VERY careful when running the hose. It bends and kinks very easily. I would recommend spending the extra money and getting the braided hose the first time. If you are going to use this kit, watch a few youtube videos first. The instructions that come with the kit are almost useless. December 22, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Decent The length of the tubing is what sold me on this kit. The designers of my kitchen put the sink across the kitchen from the fridge nook, and the water lines for the sink and fridge are under the sink, so I needed to run line all around the room. The length was perfect, and it was easy to install. The tubing itself is decent quality, but there seems to be an issue with the connectors and not really holding the tubing well. The tubing fits over the connectors, but doesn't secure itself in any way. I am still working on a way to better secure this, but might just get some little clamps. Overall, decent, but not a single solution. June 23, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't use everything, but no issues Have no issues with the parts, but didn't use everything in the kit, so I feel like it was slightly a waste of money. Used with Whirlpool EZ Connect system. November 9, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2 months - it still works fine I had not problems installing it. I do not know why some complain about it. It takes a few minutes to finish the project. Water does not smell bad as someone pointed out. Make sure the needle goes through the pipe deep enough. Otherwise you have slow water flow. After I installed it I flushed the line with about 5 gallons of water. Doing so ensured me it was clean (no clogs in the fridge) and water flow was fast enough (pressure wise). Also, it checks for leaks. Keep in mind the line is made of plastic, so be careful when tightening the ferrules. And as I mentioned - it has been installed for 2 months and no leaks whatsoever. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install The package contained everything needed for a do it yourself-er to install. Very easy to hook up. September 9, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Garbage compression fittings I am not an idiot. I know the difference between threaded fittings and compression fittings. So no, I did not confuse the two. That being said, the compression fittings included in this kit are garbage. They do not hold the plastic tubing in place. Tighten the nuts as much as you can with a wrench, think you are good to go - then turn on the valve and watch the water pressure pop that tube out and spray water everywhere, time and time again. So it's off to the LOCAL HARDWARE STORE for me in the morning to try and find some compression fittings that actually work. January 3, 2015
