Answer:
Hi Susan - No you are not required to use them but electricians use them to help create what they call a "pigtail" that connects the grounds in the electrical box and feed the ground on the receptacle as well. Makes for a cleaner looking connection and helps take up less space in the box. Keep in mind they are designed for a max of 3 # 10 AWG or 4 #12 AWG conductors. Good question. Ron - Read More

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Not used often enough I'm a real estate investor. I buy them, fix them up and rent them. The first thing I do is go through the electrical system and replace all the switches and outlets. Doing this allows me to inspect and correct many mistakes that homeowners have made over the years. One problem I often see is ground wires bundled but not secured with a wire nut. I always add greenies to these bundles not only to secure the connection but also to cover the clipped ends which are sharp and could pierce the insulation on another wire. Cheap insurance for peace of mind. June 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Grounding Wire Nut Great for leaving a "trail" in the junction box. Takes up little space. April 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best brand of wire nut Makes for quick clean easy installation! Way better than a crimp! November 10, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product Great Product at a reasonable price. I purchased the connectors for a home building project. I am very satisfied. September 23, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product finally available at HD. In the past, the lack of availability of this type of commonly used but specialized item would require a trip to both HD and the electrical supplier. If HD makes more of these type items available, They will get more contractor business. March 25, 2014
