This is our third pet door, and the second one of this type. Our other brand pet door makes a very loud sound when pets come in and out, a fact that was pointed out by the very knowledgeable store sales associate. He showed why the other type was so loud, and this one quiet. They were out of stock in the store, so I ordered online. Unit arrived promptly.
Installation was a challenge in the metal exterior door. I didn't have my metal blade for my circular saw, so I had to cut the opening by hand with a small 10" Stanley mini hack saw with a dull blade in both sides of the door, at a rate of 10 minutes per inch. The cut took hours.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by smcg14 Dimensions advertised are wrong!
Bought this particular unit because it was advertised at homedepot.com to fit door thickness from 1" to 1 3/4", and I needed it for an insulated storm door of 1". Only after cutting the hole in the door (and finding it was still too thick after removing the tabs)did I check the manufacturer's web site to find it fits doors from 1 1/4" to 1 3/4". Fortunately, I was able to trim a little more off, shim and caulk it to get a proper fit. But this added a heck of a lot more time to this project!

Can't beat the Home Depot price. Keeps the draft out and will pay for itself in reduction of heating costs. Seals well enough that small rodents cannot get in either. GREAT DOOR! Appearance would have been a 5 but it came with tinted panels even though the picture shows clear and the description doesn't mention color. The dark color makes it feel like it is dark outside even at noon. Installation would have been a 5 but the template doesn't match the product so if you use it you will have holes in the wrong places and the size will be too snug.

This dog door worked well for nearly 6 months, then one morning I saw the door laying on the ground near the door that it was built into. The tiny little plastic pieces that would hold the rod in place to keep the dog door flap intact had broken. I tried to put the door back on but every couple of days I would have to reattach the door as it would be lying on the floor yet again, leaving a big hole into my house.

Generally a good door. Better than my last one which was made of plastic, this has a metal flange. The biggest problem is that the flange is fairly narrow and screws go in very close to the opening in the door. This makes it difficult to retrofit an old dog door of a different size as the hole for the opening must be pretty exact.

Every time our dog wanted to do out into the back yard either I or my wife would have to get up and open the french door for Daisy. Since we have windows that are within a foot of the floor, I purchased some clear plastic panels at Home Depot, along with some 3/4" x 3/4" molding and the Extra Large Premium Draft Stopper Pet Door. I bought the Extra Large size because Daisy is a short and fat little beagle so the extra large size allows her plenty of room to go through. I used the plastic panels and molding to build a double pane window that I could mount the pet door into (since I did not have a door to mount it in). After raising the window all the way, I placed the double pane plastic window assembly that I built into the window opening (actually I assembled the double pane assembly inside the window casing for security purposes) and lowered the normal window on it. Afterward I used concrete blocks outside the window for steps and we're using some "pet steps" at the inside of the window like we used for her to get up on the sofa, Daisy can now let herself in and out of the house whenever she likes. It sure is nice not to have to get up in the middle of the night to let her out to use the bathroom. The pet door is heavy duty and made of high quality plastics. The access port of the door is made of double pane plastic and seals using rubber and magnets which are mounted into the door itself. We love it and so does Daisy.

Easy install. Very solid construction. The flat actually has some weight to it so that it stays closed during regular winds (it blew open a few times, but that was during unusually strong winds. I used the hard cover that comes with the door to cover the flap and there was no problem during the wind.). I have the biggest one and it is used by my two large dogs and three small cats.
