I insulated all around the edges to the actual door...not the flap. There is some cool air you can feel thru the flap, but with the way I have mine set up I use it year round.

I think this door is good if you dont plan on leaving it in permantly..I will also add I love the door for what it is ...a temporary door for my dogs to go out while I am at work for 9 hours. also when the weather is nice ( dont have heat nor AC on) I do leave it in permantly.

Answer:
It will probably require trimming the adjustable top. That is what I had to do on a vinyl slider. the top is thin aluminum and is pretty easy to cut with a metal blade.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by doggie door this door is great. when i first ordered i didn't think my 115 pound german shepherd would fit, its a little tight but he goes in and out with ease. he is 27 inches tall at the back so he has to duck down to get thru the 24 inch opening. July 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Patio dog door This item is great. I have a large dog and he has no problem going through the door July 26, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pet door insert Well-made, functional pet door insert for sliding glass door. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Door works great The door fits perfectly. Our sliding glass door still closes nice and snug with the dog slider installed. Our pup absolutely loves it and uses it all day long. The plastic part that hangs over the opening is magnetic so it closes up nice. We live in Las Vegas and you can't feel any 100+ air coming in from the outside. We have a Doberman, he is still a pup at 75 pounds or so. He is very tall. The extra large size works well for him. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Awesome Door Great door, easy to install and looks great! So happy we purchased this item! May 25, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by some problems the( thing that connect the sliding door with the dog door ) sealer glue did not stick it came off. other than that i like the door. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Value... The least expensive doggie door for it's size I could find. Basic but sturdy. I like the thick flap too. Took a bit of added fastening to make it adapt to my older sliding glass door. May 10, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Maybe should have gone with the higher priced model... So we got it home the door we have measured exactly 77" we had to trim the doggy door about 1/4" to make it fit in the track. Once that was done as many other said extra weather stripping is a necessity. Unfortunately it does make the actual doorway quite narrow. See the pic attached, I'm about 6' tall so that gives you an idea of what the human in and out doorway looks like. Overall we are in a rental and this a short term solution (and it definitely solves the problem of long work days and puppies needing to potty!). We definitely will be going with something else when we buy! March 13, 2016
