My door has recessed edges on it for design. If I install in the center there will be gaps behind the mounts on both the exterior and interior. I can move it to the right or left and completely take out one of the recessed rectangular areas, but mounting in the middle looks like it would lead to not having a seal.

Answer:
The two frames telescope together, however there is no inner sleeve or liner. Although our pet doors are very durable and designed for a variety of applications, they are not waterproof.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 291 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best Door On The Market Simple and easy install that took maybe 30 mins to install into a metal insulated door for my bullmastiff. Great quality and will but this brand again for sure. August 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent dog door for two German shepherds We installed this dog door in a steel house door. The hardest part was cutting the opening into the steel. Inserting the dog door and bolting it in was a simple process using the templates provided. This is the best dog door we've ever had. The dual flap system keeps the weather out because the air space between the flaps acts as insulation. As well, it keeps bugs out. The door and flaps are well made and sturdy and have withstood heavy use by our two shepherds for over a year without any noticeable damage to the various components. With previous doors we had to replace the flaps frequently because the rubber frames would get torn. Not so with this product. We highly recommend this dog door. July 8, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Dog Door I installed the dog door in a couple of hours. I did take the door down and put it on saw horses. The first week my dog didn't want anything to do with the door. The magnetic catches make a little noise and it was scary. The magnets are great as they keep air conditioning in and mosquitoes out! The second week with coaxing and holding the door open he finally liked the door. Now he comes in and out whenever he wants and isn't the least concerned with the noise. I love the door! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Really BIG Door The door is great! But I am returning it . . . . I decided not to install such a large door in my wall. July 6, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase! Installation is easy as long as you have a jig saw or sabre saw blade long enough to go completely through the door, otherwise getting precisely matched cutouts is problematic. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by a good dog door for the money so far, only had a month or so, the two flaps is a great idea The first dog door I had did not last 2 month, the flap tore right off, note a different brand, this dog door seems to be a much higher quality, yes the frame is plastic but no problem to install, no problem getting our yellow lad the go in and out, we have only had it installed for about 6 wks, but so far very pleased with it, hope it continues to perform well and right now I expect it to. A word of advice to anyone thinking about getting a dog door, only consider the ones with 2 flaps April 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Best large dog door available anywhere The installation of this door was very simple with minimal effort. This door is works great for our 115 lbs. Wolf hy-bred dog, and little Border Collie. The dual flap design keeps out the weather, we live in Northern Nevada and lately has been as cold as 7 degrees with NO heat or drafts thru the panel. I recommend taking the door off the frame and doing the job while resting on 2 saw horses so the door acts as your work table as well, quick and easy. Took the dogs only 2 aided passes thru to learn how to use the product. Now they come and go when they want, these animals are very house broken, have never had an accident in the house with this product installed. December 29, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job The door was relatively easy to install - as expected. I had to order the super large size (15x23.5) because I have a Pyrenees/St. Barnard mix. He's a big boy, but fits through just fine. The door is huge! So it adds a lot of light to the room. It does allow for some fresh air flow, but isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I live at 9000' and we have some cold and windy days. The room does get colder now, but it's worth it and I installed it in a room I can close off from the rest of the house. The wind has had no effect on the flaps. Overall, I am very happy with with door and that my guy can come and go as needed. February 26, 2013
