Customer Questions & Answers

can I still lock my exsisting sliding door

Asked by: Ninerfan
No, you will need to buy a security bar. I just cut a piece of wood and leave it at the base of the patio. Not the ideal solution but it works fine.

Can I install this in the sliding screen door of the glass patio door

Our cat does not go outside unless we are home. I would rather install this in the screen sliding door rather than the actual patio door.

does the door come in bronze color

Asked by: nick
This pet door is aluminum. I guess you can buy spray paint can and spray it. It doesn't seem hard to spray the whole thing bronze. Just gotta tape off the windows and actual pet door.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from we live in Florida so not so concerned about a little draft but if we lived in a northern climate... we live in Florida so not so concerned about a little draft but if we lived in a northern climate the draft that comes in due to the doors not meeting up exactly plus the back end of the slider just has a strip of plastic weather stripping may be a concern. If you can figure out a way to cut down the draft it is a great door that looks better than the home-made ones we have used in the past.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to install I like to keep the cat's litter box on the balcony, and this pet door allows my cat to go in and out on his own to do his business. The installation was ridiculously easy: I just opened my sliding glass door and placed the pet door panel in place. The top of the panel is adjustable to allow for different door heights (within a few inches), and there is a spring that pushes up to expand the panel to fit your door height. The door comes with two different types of weatherstripping: one to seal any gap on the side of the pet door, and another to fill the gap between the two glass panels of your now-partially-open sliding glass door. Since they only give you enough weatherstripping to line one side of the pet door, I found it necessary to buy some more weatherstripping to line the other side in order to keep the cold out. Only problem is I don't have a way to lock the sliding glass door anymore. This is not a problem for me because I live on the second floor and I'm not worried about the possibility of a burglar entering through the balcony. If you are worried about security, you should cut a wooden dowel of the right length to prevent someone from being able to open the sliding glass door from the outside. I think the pet door came with a door stopper that you can install to lock the sliding glass door in place. I didn't use this piece because I didn't want to install anything permanently in my rental apartment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cat Loves This Door Received this door insert very fast. Easy to install but bought some added installation. This door was bought for a cat that never used a pet door before so had a learning curve. The door flap is secured closed with a magnet and the resistance was too much for our cat at first. I removed the magnetic for a month to let her get used to using the door and then replaced the magnet and the cat had no problems. Is usually in and out this door up to 20 times each day. This door works very well for my purposes BUT if I had only one patio door and wanted to use it constantly I would not be so happy with this door. Also HD had the cheapest price I could find this door for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovin' it! Great price, good quality, easy to install. Only took cat about 5 days to be totally comfy with it. It IS quite a small opening (5x7"), so if Ginger gets any fatter, she'll be hard-pressed to fit through the opening. You might want to get the medium, even for a cat or small dog, just to be sure.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good door, lacks insulation Product does its main function..our cats have no problem going through the door. It's easy to install, but bumper installation instructions and pictures don't match. Only problem is the insulation. Air clearly leaks. I needed about 30 ft of high density foam weather stripping of various sizes to appropriately seal it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good product for the price It was more sturdy than I expected and was adjustable and would probably work for many doors. Before measuring you need to think about where in your sliding door track you will put this 1" thick panel. Not easy until you get it and see how it integrates with the grooves in the bottom track the side track and the door. The track slants outward and the measurements will vary. Get a panel that is smaller than the smallest height which will be on the interior part of the track. It will easily adjust to the exterior height if that is where it has to go. It was good enough for my purposes though for my door I had to do some modification. The vinyl spline that holds the glass in was not done well and when I fixed it was too short though it still hold the glass. The weather stripping they include is to firm to allow for any squaring and plumb issues most doors would have. It has a simple lock for the sliding door though it wouldn't stop anyone getting in after pushing in this unit. The instructions aren't very clear and the pictures are small. The secondary weather stripping included must go on the sliding door to keep out drafts where the sliding doors overlap being partially open with the pet door in place. It is a single pane of glass so not insulated and the weather stripping is important to keeping at least some of the heat and cold out.
