How do I know what size pet door to order?

How do I measure my pet for this product to be able to work effectively?
Asked by: CeeKay1
I think it's best to measure your tallest and widest dog from their shoulder to the ground to fit the opening . If they can fit their shoulders thru then the rest of their body should fit.

Does it have to be centered in the door?

My door has recessed edges on it for design. If I install in the center there will be gaps behind the mounts on both the exterior and interior. I can move it to the right or left and completely take out one of the recessed rectangular areas, but mounting in the middle looks like it would lead to not having a seal.

I bought this product because I live in Colorado and was looking for one that seals well to keep the cold air out of the house. Sadly, it does not do a very good job of that. About 1 month post-installation there is a gap (ranging from about 1-2 mm to about 1/8 inch) between the bottom of the door and the magnets that are supposed to create the seal. I keep needing to physically grab and pull the magnets up. Sometimes they stay up for a few minutes but they drop as soon as my dog passes through. I also even added a thin magnetic strip to try to make it seal but it doesn't. It's not even cold here yet and I know the plastic flaps will shrink a bit when it's colder. If one lives in a place where it doesn't get cold it would be a great product as it was easy to install, looks pretty nice and seems like ti will be durable. But for cold weather insulation I am disappointed and would not recommend it.

Fairly easy to install (our door had metal paneling which complicated it slightly). Bought for a puppy and guessed on how high to place it for when she is grown. The puppy uses it all the time, but was hesitant the first day. It was a little difficult for her to push past the two doors at first. Now she flies through them at a full tilt run.

It doesn't let much air in at all when it's windy. Was a little tricky to install, but I think it was more to my own limitations. So far, I'm pleased with it...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid door and decent quality The interior and exterior flaps make all the differance for the insulating capability. I was worried that we would lose heat in the house. But we got a pretty good snow with temps below zero, and the room with the dog door was still well heated with the heater maintaining its usual production. The magnetic strip on the bottom of the flaps help to keep the flap in place after use, but it can get crooked sometimes. All in all it does a very good job and has a solid structure to it. Be prepared to do some measuring if the cutout template is distorted in any way. It is made of a firm paper-type material and bends/rips easily.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent dog door for two German shepherds We installed this dog door in a steel house door. The hardest part was cutting the opening into the steel. Inserting the dog door and bolting it in was a simple process using the templates provided. This is the best dog door we've ever had. The dual flap system keeps the weather out because the air space between the flaps acts as insulation. As well, it keeps bugs out. The door and flaps are well made and sturdy and have withstood heavy use by our two shepherds for over a year without any noticeable damage to the various components. With previous doors we had to replace the flaps frequently because the rubber frames would get torn. Not so with this product. We highly recommend this dog door.
