This was a very easy project for me to do. I had just finished installing my French doors so this was a breeze compared to that project. All I needed was a Jig Saw with a steel cutting blade, a 3/8" diameter drill bit, painters tape, a tape measure, a small tube of silicone and a screw driver to install this pet door myself. All you have to do is center the template on the door, meet the minimum height requirements and verify that the template is level. Then completely tape the template on its outer perimeter in place so when you cut with the jig saw you do not scratch up the face of your door. Then drill the 8 3/8" holes into the door and cut out the opening for the pet door. I didn't use the recommended 1/2" drill bit because if you center the 3/8" drill on the center point of the hole on the template then the bolt will go all the way through the door and into the threaded insert on the outside pet door. Once I had the pet door installed I added silicone to a few area's that had a gap between the pet door seal and the detail design on the door to seal up any air gaps.
After installing the pet door I did have to remove the interior flap so my dogs could get use to going in and out of it and after one week I placed the second flap back on and they had no issues going in or out at that point.

Had a single door before and did not hold up to wind and rain! This keeps the weather out and the a/c in.
Mitze loves to come and go when she please's, thanks for a great product!

I had a handy man install this door for me. He had no problems whatsoever. The total install took less than one hour. He said the directions were complete and easy to follow. The door looks fantastic! I am so glad I decided to do this.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MBritt Great Purchase - our Dog loves her new door
My husband did the installation - it took a while as we installed in a metal door and had to buy a new saw blade. It took a couple of hours once we had the right tools.
The dual flaps keep all the air in the house - no breeze comes through. Our dog is 25 pounds and about 14 inches tall - perfect size. It only took her a day to get used to it. Love it !

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by OldBuzzard Better than previous products used.
Did not require the 1/2" holes as suggested in the instructions. The 3/8" holes worked just fine. No problems with installation.

The door is of excellent quality, however the screws/bolts that are included are not long enough to go through a 2 x 6" exterior wall. The installer had to go to Home Depot to purchase longer bolts and modify them to make it work right. Otherwise, we are very pleased with the purchase

This is the one...if your looking for a durable, long lasting, great for inclimate weather dog door. Living in Maine with wind, sleet, rain and snow during the winter months, I have struggled with finding the right dog door that doesn't: 1) freeze in the middle of the night, 2) pop open with a gust of wind and 3) stand up to my dog's chewing behaviors. After being disappointed with the second dog door I bought, I needed something more "ruff" and durable to last through another winter night. What sold me on this dog door is that the Ruff Weather door has two flaps with a magnetic strip running along the bottom of both flaps and that this company sells replacement flaps for dogs who like to chew. This is definitely going to be my last dog door...
