Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Hate your cats? Then this may be your solution. First, be sure your patio door is no more than 80" tall or it will not fit snugly and it will let drafts and bugs in. Second, if you want to keep your cats in and they are used to being able to come and go freely, they won't be able to comprehend that there is such a thing as a door that is open sometimes and not others, so they will likely try everything they can muster to get it open. Once they learn it can be forced if they throw their weight at it, you won't be able to keep them in when you know it's not safe for them outside. After they get out by forcing the door they won't be able to get back in because it can only be forced open to the outside. While we were asleep our cat was able to force it open even though one of its hind legs was in a splint, and when it couldn't get back in it ran off. We were extremely fortunate that it made it home safely 24 hours later, but the anguish it caused me and my elderly home care client during the time he was missing was a nightmare. Also, it is quite likely that your patio door will be much less secure with this in place unless you fashion some kind of reinforcement. It should have been easy to design a latch that is secure and gives a pet owner any option for which way the pet door will swing, but this design is a disaster waiting to happen. Also, if your patio door is more than 80" tall, you would have to order an expensive custom made slider for it to fit properly. September 25, 2014
