Additional tools and materials may be required. As with any home improvement project, if you do not have the tools or skills to properly install your pet door, we suggest using a professional handyperson or licensed contractor.

Answer:
depending on the thickness of the door, you would have to cut a hole to the inner dimensions. If you are very handy with tools (drill to make pilot hole for saw blade and a saw of some sort) you could do it yourself. If not I would hire someone since you need a exact cut.

Answer:
I measured the outside frame as 15" by 9" exactly and the opening where the pet walks through as 7" by 12" (without subtracting out the magnet on the bottom). I think you could cut a hole 13.75" or less and it would fit, but your outside would have to clear at least 15" for the frame to be there, and it doesn't really work without the frame. Btw, decently strong wind pushes open the flap during the day. Read More

Is there a way to remove the magnet?

I have a kitten who is having trouble pushing the flap open. I was wondering if there is a way to remove the magnet from the flap or frame without ruining the product to make it a little easier to push the flap. Once he is bigger and stronger, then I could replace the magnet.

Answer:
Looking at it, you could pry it out but the plastic may break. If you are good with a drill you may be able to drill out the rivets that hold the metal strip on the flap also.

Answer:
We do not recommend removing the magnet retainer bar as it will create an open slot in the bottom of the frame.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 76 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pet Door for four I have used pet doors for years. I have four dogs, Lab, bulldog,14 lbs. shih tzu and a 8 lbs. poodle. I needed to repair the wall under the pet door, after 7 different dogs in 18 years and moisture had damaged the drywall which at at the time I did not know how to seal properly. It has been 2 years since I purchased this door at Home Depot, have no complains at all. Installation is not difficult, it seals much better than the others. The door has shown that it has the endurance by handling all four dogs and company an couple times a week. August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Doggy Door It works my cat and dog both use it. The magnetic strip at the bottom which holds the flap is almost to strong for my cat, but she finally after a few pushes with her paw gets the door open! July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Happy with my purchase! I am so happy that I purchased and installed this door! One of my dogs was constantly waking me up early every morning to go and relieve herself. This was okay during the week, but grew old on the weekends. I finally decided on this product after reading the reviews and was not disappointed. My dog has been using this door in the mornings and throughout the day, instead of waking me up or having an accident in the house. Training took less than 2 weeks, even though both dogs were initially afraid of it. I am very pleased! June 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great pet door for larger cats and smaller dogs. This door is perfect for bigger cats and smaller dogs like chihuahuas and dachshunds. The pet door works perfectly and looks great. The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is that it doesn't come with a cutting template, which it really REALLY needs. I cut the door wrong the first time because I had no reference but to trace the outside of the pet door and hope for the best, and since it's not perfectly flat it wound up being slightly uneven, which I was able to fix thankfully. Otherwise I recommend this product highly if you need a good pet door. June 7, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dog tested, wife approved Very reasonably priced. Very simple to install, as long as you have the right tools. For a plastic framed pet door, it is as solid as you would expect. Most important, the dogs didn't complain.....they took to it right away. I would recommend this pet door for applications where cost is an issue and you want to do the work yourself. June 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by great for cats! Easy to put in the window.. Used a piece of 3/4 ply to fill in the empty area. May 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pet Door Easy to install and a great price! It's perfect for cats. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great Had to only use half of it for my storm door b/c it would be way too thick as designed. It looks great, though it is a 1/4" taller than previous model that appeared similar. March 15, 2016
