Customer Questions & Answers

Will this work on an exterior door of an older mobile home?

Asked by: HBT
This will work on any opening up to 1-3/4" deep. It'll require approximately an 8" x 13" cut-out in the door.

Hiw would you instal this in a metal door?

Asked by: Tanc
same as any door, use the solid security door as the hole template, drill your pilot hole and use a jig saw to cut the hole.

Is door one way or can they go in and out?

Asked by: irolga
The door flap swings both in and out. Our two miniature schnauzers use it thousands of times each year to run outside.

The flap shrinks and discolors in this Florida heat but the entire door is easy to remove and replace. The locking cover is also nice. Just installed our third door in 14 years so considering a seven year replacement schedule, not bad for the price. And as things wear, a whole new door is just about the price of a replacement flap and sliding cover. Better off just replacing the entire door.

I was able to reach my hand through the dog door to unlock the door and get inside my own home. I accidentally locked myself outside at 5 a.m. and was able to reach through the dog door to unlock the knobs. Now - I'm screwed. My previous "what happens if there's a possum in the house" has faded; reinvented, now to a full-blown "tweaker arm" reaching though the door to get inside.

Made entirely of plastic, so not as robust as the models made with aluminum. Met my needs as a temporary third door in a "wind vestibule" arrangement to keep the interior doors from blowing open during strong winter winds. Temporary vestibule framed with 2x4 lumber, 2" foam, outside sheeted with coroplast, white duct tape for the seems. Exterior door is set 90 degrees relative to permanent doggy door in house wall.

I installed it in a metal kitchen door between the kitchen and the sunporch for my Westie dog. The only problem to look out for is the torquing of the six screws. If you overtighten you can alter the plastic outline of the doggie door and it will effect the sliding in of the solid cover and you will have to play with those screws so that the cover will slide down smoothly.

This is about the third one we have installed in various homes for our small dog and cat. They have great access and we can block it off as needed. The last install required us to go through a stucco wall. It was very easy to adapt the door to our needs. I think we will have one of these in every home we ever live in.

The door's opening is secured by a slide in plastic panel and not just a snap over lid used on other brands. Unfortunately it was returned only because it would not fit the screen door thickness without fabricating my own filler parts to secure to door.
