I work from home and am rarely gone for long. However, if I am leaving for all day I would like to be able to take it out and full close and lock the door. Is this something that is easy to get in and out or is it more of a install and leave it type of thing?

Answer:
It is more of an install and leave it type of thing: you will need to unscrew about 10 screws to remove the pet door, and then to install the original lock catch into the door frame.

Answer:
It is not meant to be taken in and out, certainly not on a daily basis. The latch mechanism will work with your existing hardware. The door catches can be adapted to whatever the configuration of your present latch.

Answer:
I would use a pole or bar cut to fit the bottom of your door to stop the door from opening. Easiest thing to do and impossible to break open.

Answer:
No this is a single pane glass. Double-glass is on-line only. I do have a double glass original patio doors, but I decided it's OK to have a single glass pet door (it's narrow anyway)

I think the specs are incorrect. Why would it be 14" wide if the flap is only 7" wide?

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 44 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Functional, sturdy, and good-looking, too! This panel, with a built in doggie-door at the bottom, is designed to fit into the track of a patio sliding door. It is a bit tricky and takes a while to insert the panel into the track. However, the results are very satisfactory! The panel itself, and its frame, are strong and nice-looking (we chose the white vinyl model), and are well adapted to most architectural styles. We really like the little doggie-door! It has a clear plastic flap that our terrier, Poppy, pushes open to get in or out; it then closes behind him to prevent insects and other unwanted creatures from entering the house. At times when we don't want the dog to get out, the panel comes with a rigid plastic plate that inserts neatly into the dog-door frame, effectively keeping it shut. It's a nice piece of engineering and we love the freedom of allowing Poppy to come and go with having to open the door for him every time. July 28, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by OK if you have another patio door Note this Pet Patio Door will limit your door exit width by 1/3, and the patio door won't slide into the pet door as good as into the original door frame. If you have just one patio door, better to have a professional to install a rectangular pet door into the cut of the stationary glass door. Installation took about 4 hours, plus a trip to Home Depot for the lock catch. I taught my cat to use it in the evening, she seems a bit reluctant but does go through. Installation notices: 1. Watch the video. 2. I did not use spacers to align the top "H" section. Instead I just cut it to have that 5/16" gap (step #2 of the manual). 3. What I did use a white spacer for was to get the pet door parallel (plumb) with the original door (my door frame appeared to be not completely rectangular). 4. The hardest part was to install the door lock catch. The original was 1 1/2" wide, and the pet door can accommodate up to 1 1/16" wide. The provided black plastic locks did not fit. I found a "Patio door keeper" part E-2125 in Home Depot, which did fit for my lock. I had to put the remaining white wide spacer (cut in two) and the black spacers, between the lock catch and the door seal extension, for my door lock to be able to catch. 5. After you snap in door seal extrusions to the door seal extension (step #8 in the manual) you won't be able to remove them, so do that as the last step. May need to adjust lock catch spacers after. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Dog thinks it is the greatest thing around I didn't attach it the way it was supposed to be - to the sliding door. Instead I revamped and attached it to the screen door. I can still lock the inside sliding door as usual and also have the option to slide the glass door shut it when I don't want the doggie door accessible. Works as I want it to. Will move it to another door for the winter months. June 28, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great It was a lot harder to install than I expected, but once installed, it works very well. My dog learned how to use it right away and shoots in and out when ever he wants to. June 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works just as expected. I did not install it myself so I am not sure how easy it was but it's in and works and looks great. I am happy with the purchase. June 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product, But A Challenge to Install Ideal Pet is falling down when it comes to installation. With all the reviews about installation difficulties and my own experience, you'd think they'd remedy this by now. My skilled contractor who's done all sorts of complicated projects around here took hours to install this. The instructions are not clear and the included hardware isn't right. One example is the screws were too short. He had to use his own screws. Also I bought a higher model, yet the thing that holds the sliding door lock is plastic, not metal. Once you get past the installation challenges, it's a great product. My cats love to go on the balcony to enjoy the fresh air and breezes, and the sights, smells, and sounds of the outdoors. I'm so happy I can provide this for them. Definitely worth the installation challenge. If you're not 100% handy, however, I recommend hiring someone very good to install it. August 12, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Well made and easy to install Took me 30 minutes to install (mostly to make careful final cuts and get right number of spacers for lock) April 26, 2016
