I was concerned a pet door would detract from the interior of the house. Not this one. This pet door has design appeal and looks very good. The double doors work very well keeping the weather and bugs outside. I liked the built in seal on the exterior side of the door frame. The door came with all the necessary hardware to complete the installation. Gizmo had no trouble with the double door design and used it right from the start.

After my initial review, I was first contacted by the national accounts manager and then by the owner of Ideal Pet. Both were very pleasant to talk to and sympathetic to my situation. I was informed that the flaps should absolutely not have failed in such a short period of time. I received all of the required replacement parts within a couple of days at no additional cost. Thank you gentlemen. Management at the highest levels of Ideal Pet clearly backs their products and in my opinion that is a sure sign of a quality company. Signed, a valued cutomer.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Kel Best Day Ever for my two dogs
Wall kit installation was the only minor issue we had while installing. There didn't seem to be any where for the actual doors to "click" on the wall kit so it kept moving during installation. Other than this minor issues it has been a great purchase for my two dog household, and great freedom for them!

I bought this door to install through the wall of our garage. It took me about 2 hours to fully install which included reading instructions, installation, and caulking the outside.
Here are a few suggestions:
The instructions recommend a jig saw, which works well, but for installation through a wall you might need a sawzall and/or circular saw. I had to clean up my hole with a sawzall a bit. Also, When installing on the outside of the wall, if you have siding with a thick profile you will either need to use expanding foam to seal up any big gaps or do what I did which was to trace around the outside of the door plastic and then cut the siding back (AND ONLY THE SIDING) with a circular saw which will leave a nice flush wall sheathing surface for the dog door to sit against. I then caulked around the door where it met the siding (I have overlapped Hardi siding). I also installed a short section of metal flashing above the top of the door to prevent water penetration.

I LOVE THIS DOOR!!!!! It took about a week for all my dogs to use the door as they have never had one before and one is very skidish but now that they are it is great!! They go in and out at will, and I don't have to stop what I am doing to let them out. The flap is holding up great with the high traffic it gets. We started by taking one flap off till they got used to the door since two of the dogs are very small ( yorkie and shih-zhu) but they are now doing great with it. Best buy I have made in years :) Never having installed anything like this it only took about an hour and that included having to run out for screws the right length for the walls we went thru. The ones that came with were too short the ones with the wall extender were too long as our wall is only 3"....but it works great!

It takes know-how to install, but once in, the dog-door is excellent. I like the fact it has two flaps--so much better for keeping heat in or out, depending on the season. I'm very pleased.

We've had this door installed in the home for 6 years, since we moved in. We've got at least three large dogs at one time, though we had a year of 5 large dogs and 1 medium sized one. We've lost a few to old age. The dogs don't step politely through the door, they charge through it, particularly when they're going outside. One dog barks, and all of the sudden it's a race outside. The first flap fell off after a year and a half. It's the outside one, facing southwest. It gets a lot of sun. The indoor flap finally fell off today. Though we didn't think they would do much, the plastic covers/lock out covers do a decent job of cutting down on the heat and cold entering the home. They're definitely drafty, but the two covers on plus an insulating cover tacked up helped (very windy around here) keep the drafts under control on bad weather days.
I gave it four stars because the plastic bracket holding the indoor flap to the door frame is also broken and there aren't any replacement parts. Luckily, my carpenter can engineer something that will work and make it look nice, but the fact is that the bracket for the door flaps get as much work from the dogs as the flap itself. Other manufacturers sell replacement brackets. There is no reason why Ideal Pet can't do so as well. Replacing the entire pet door to replace a broken bracket is ridiculous. Having to make your own replacement bracket is equally ridiculous.

Purchased four months ago. Both inner and outer flaps are cracked and tearing accross the top of the entrance. Conveniently, the manufacture Ideal Pet Products does not warranty the flaps. Replacement costs for each flap? $35. Cost to replace both flaps? $80 including shipping. Oh, and one of the weather strips has also come off. Don't waste your money.
