The Cat6 cable would only function at Cat5e tolerances which is wasteful.* Read Less

These are designed for Cat5 wire, and as long as you have the correct tool, they are easy to crimp. Without a crimper this will be very hard to do correctly

Yes, they will work for cat5 cables, as there is no difference in the pin-out and cat5e is backwards compatible with cat 5. As a home remodeler, I have used existing cat5 phone cable with these plugs and I'm still able to get a gigabit connection, although that's not guaranteed.
I think the act of crimping onto the wire is more a function of the tool you are using. I have a ratcheting style crimper that Read More

Hi Jason yes they will work on Cat 6 cable and for basic Ethernet applications should be fine. If you need to test the cable with a certification tester then no I would used the Cat 6 plugs we sell to get the best performance. Ron at ron.kipper@idealindustries.com

Answer:
We have added a video to the product page for the connectors. In the video we will step by step show you how to install one on Cat 5e cable. I tell contractors the first one you put on is not in front of a customer......a little practice goes a long way.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great plugs The specialized RJ-45 crimping tool is a must with these. Get a couple extra to practice putting the lines in the correct order and cut to the correct length and it is easy. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RJ-45 connectors I needed to repair some cat 5e patch cables I had at home. These worked fine. I looked up the 568A and B diagrams and did the repair. September 20, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Watch the re-packaging Product was fine; plugs are easy to terminate and pass certification. The problem was that my package had been re-sealed with a new plastic hanger tab; I didn't pay attention. When I got home, I saw that I only had 19 plugs, not 25. Not worth the trip back to the store, but I'll carefully inspect any similarly packaged product in the future. August 27, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RJ-45 8-Position 8-Contact Category 5e Modular Plugs The RJ-45 8-Position 8-Contact Category 5e Modular Plugs we good however I did not need 25 the packaging was more than I will ever need and the cost was a little more than some others, I bought them because I needed then ASAP. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by DIY internet cords If you make your own you will need the crimp tool to go with this. Double check the position of the wires and test prior to use. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by RJ45 Modular Plugs A package of 25 easy to use RJ45 male connectors. These are very simple to use and out of the package of 25 we only had 1 that would not work. You have to use the crimping tool (sold seperately) to finish setting the wires into the plug firmly. The plugs will not work without crimping the plug down onto the wires. Great price compared to Amazon, available local ots, and very reliable. April 5, 2016
