Answer:
I have been pulling and terminating cat 5 and cat 6 cable for many years. built many It closets. The crimper type is essential. I often use the 568A standard on both ends which is pin 1 w/g pin 2 green pin 3 w/o pin 4 blue pin 5 w/b pin 6 orange pin 7 w/brn pin 8 brown.
Unless you are making a cable to go from computer to computer then you need a crossover cable.

These are designed for Cat5 wire, and as long as you have the correct tool, they are easy to crimp. Without a crimper this will be very hard to do correctly

Yes, they will work for cat5 cables, as there is no difference in the pin-out and cat5e is backwards compatible with cat 5. As a home remodeler, I have used existing cat5 phone cable with these plugs and I'm still able to get a gigabit connection, although that's not guaranteed.

We have added a video to the product page for the connectors. In the video we will step by step show you how to install one on Cat 5e cable. I tell contractors the first one you put on is not in front of a customer......a little practice goes a long way.

RJ-45 8-Position 8-Contact Category 5e Modular Plugs (25 per Card) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Watch the re-packaging Product was fine; plugs are easy to terminate and pass certification. The problem was that my package had been re-sealed with a new plastic hanger tab; I didn't pay attention. When I got home, I saw that I only had 19 plugs, not 25. Not worth the trip back to the store, but I'll carefully inspect any similarly packaged product in the future.
