Answer:
anset yes they are generally approved by local codes but you might check. The packing states it is not allowed on wood paneling as the code will not let anything flammable in the box. Ron at ron.kipper@idealindustries.com

Answer:
Not an electrician but I believe according to the National Electric Code, you can only use spacers where the front edge of the electrical box is less that 1/4" from the finished surface. If it's more then you need to use one of those telescoping box extenders.

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Simple solution! I didn't want to replace electrical boxes. These spaces are SO EASY to install and do what's needed to extend out the receptacles for a tiling project! February 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good solution for a common problem. These bright greenish yellow bits of plastic are perfect for leveling outlets and switches when mounted in electrical boxes that are not flush with the wall material. Actually they are only useful when the box is deeper than the wall. They are placed on the screws under the body of the device and provide a solid surface to tighten the device screws against. This allows the device to be firm in the box even if the plaster ears on it do not contact the wall material. If the wall material is flammable, other means should be used to protect from fire. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quick Fix When I install the electrical outlet box I forgot to compensate for the 5/8" thick fire rated sheet rock I just installed. These spacers did the job of bringing the outlet out to be flush with the cover. July 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Find I had a double-gang electrical box with an outlet and switch to nowhere installed in paneling that I wanted to turn into something more useful. The electrician had Rube Goldberg'd the original job by cutting too large an opening, jamming two single-gang box extensions and a handful of hex nuts (as spacers that spilled all over) into the box, and used three different size screws to hold the outlet and switch. No way I wanted to replicate that, and I was lucky to stumble upon these in a search. Each strip has eight 1/8 inch segments that fold over upon each other and snap in place. You simply cut off what you don't need or add additional segments as necessary. The strips can accommodate different size screws, and stay in place when installing any device. They provide a very sturdy fit. Combined with an oversize faceplate and proper size screws, you'd never know how poor the original job was. One note: the product at my Home Depot was black, not the bright green pictured. May 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Electrical Tile Spacers This product was very easy to use. My husband found it a little bit harder because of his big fingers. I however found it very simple once I reviewed a U-tube video. Now I am ready to tile my back splash. The employee that helped find the product was as excited about this product as I. He said that he would recommend this to future customers. October 26, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It does the job The product works fairly well. The snaps make it easier to put several together instead of trying to fight with several washers. January 14, 2014
