Can I use this on 18-3 cord?

Asked by: WyattEarp
WyattEarp the 18 gauge wire is a little small as the connector is rated for 14 to 8 AWG conductors and I'm not sure if the heat shrink with seal around the smaller conductors. Good luck on the project Ron at Ron.kipper@idealindustries.com

Can this splice be used on underground lamp post wire (14-2 UF, SOLID)? I've read that most of these splice kits are only good for stranded wire. Plus I'm guessing that 2 of these kits would be needed (with a small jumper) which would make this a very expensive splice....... thoughts?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Asked by: Mike
Mike you can use them on solid wires. If you need a stretcher kit with a little wire that will splice the wires back together it is our 46-410 unfortunately Home Depot does not stock it but any store can special order it for you. Good luck Ron at ron.kipper@idealindustries.com

So this will work with 6-3 wire?
Asked by: waltjmk
Hello waltjmk, I’m Chris from the Home Depot’s how-to Community. Thank you for your question. This kit is for smaller wire than the #6 you want to splice. Please use this alternative instead, which is the model #46-401. You can find it here: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Ideal-Thermo-Shrink-AL-CU-Underground-Splice-Kit-46-401/203761582 I hope this helps, Chris. .

HOW DOES THE SHRINK WORK

HOW DO I SHRINK THIS TUBE
Asked by: RRRWOODY
Hello RRRWOODY, The best way to shrink heat tube is with a heat gun. If you don't have access to a heat gun a hair dryer on high often works just as well. Heat shrink tube works by constricting and shrinking when heat is applied. I hope this helps. Cheers, Chris

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good connection hardware for cable I liked the connection hardware included with this product. The set screws appear to be stainless steel in a brass sleeve and I was able to really torque the screws down onto the wires, holding everything together in a solid fashion. The reason for the 3 stars rather than a higher rating is related to the shrink tube portion of the product. It did not really shrink down very well and I would not trust it to be 100% water proof. I used a soft flame from my propane torch. The shrink tube seemed to need more heat, but more heat started to burn the Romex cable, so I could not really get enough heat onto the tube to shrink it completely. Not sure how well this will work for underground applications. I had to put mine in a large pvc conduit, which I did not want to have to do.
