I would not recommend that. The heated floor will feel very comfortable with out a bathmat.

Bob, If the sub-floor is plywood no underlayment is required. Just make sure that the sub-floor is clean and in good condition.

Does this heat mat have an internal thermostat, or do you need to supply one ? Thinking about using it in the storage compartment in my 5 th wheel.

The mat does not have an internal thermostat. I would suggest the OJ Electronic UDG-4999 thermostat that we sell as it is programmable and comes with a floor sensor. You can also use a timer if you just need it on several times a day. It is best to make sure that there is some air circulation between the mat and anything that you are placing on it. Or maybe you could place the mat on a wall in the storage area?
