I upgraded our 15 year old Badger 1/3 HP with this Badger 3/4 HP in about 40 minutes. The instructions were easy to read - and be sure to read them if you have a dishwasher line to hook up or you might forget to tap out the dishwasher drain line fitting plug before you connect the hose from the dishwasher. No way I did that! I always read the instructions.
I could have retained all the old fittings since they match, but in for a penny-in for a pound, I wanted to spruce up the drain with new chrome. Here again those instructions are handy. They give a hint on setting the old unit in the sink to hold down the drain assembly as you tighten it from below. No way I did that either! Heck, what are wives for but to inconvenience with "Honey, could you come here for a moment and hold this drain down while I get under the sink and tighten it?" Yeah, marital bonding at its finest. If I'd followed the instructions it would have taken 10 minutes and less of 'those looks".
I went with the larger model because it is quieter and probably will never strain on most of what goes down the drain. You can see that it's excellent for all that extra work around the holidays. Bon appitite mon ami Badger 900!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jack Badger 900 has some good features
Badger 900 proved easy to swap out replacing a internally rusted Badger 5. Used a screwdriver to pry off the dishwasher hose after loosening the clamp. Pluming was easy since the size was an exact match. A heat gun softened the old Plummer putty on the sink portion. Screwdriver helped remove the snap ring, and that collar came off easily. Swapped the cord off the old unit and installed on the new. Put rope of putty under collar, and put towel in sink and placed new unit on collar to hold in place while installing new snap ring. Tightened screws to pull into place, and put new unit up and locked into place with a few taps of the hammer. Finished by re attaching the pipes. These with water showed no leaks. Plugged cord into wall outlet, turned on water, switch on, unit runs nicely! All done in about 35 minutes.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by valemar Decent for the price; my old Badger lasted a very long time
This new Badger 900 replaces my old Badger of the same horsepower (3/4). My old one was in my mom's house for at least 10 years and then came to my house and was installed and running for about 7 or 8. So, we are looking at a relatively long life-span for the appliance. The new Badger seems to grind more efficiently than my old one and kicks up less water during the grinding. It is only very slightly quieter than our old Badger; overall, it is not a quiet appliance when running but does a fine job. [We are always careful not to put down stringy things like celery or big things like melon rinds, which is maybe why our old Badger lasted so long.]

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Steve Failed 2 months after 3 year warranty period ended
The plastic housing of my Badger 9 3/4hp cracked after 38 months of use. Water leaked all over the inside of my under-sink cabinet. I have seen many other reviewers experiencing the same thing. Buyer beware!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by MartyinLA Super Easy Self Install/Great Value
I replaced a 10+ year old 1/2 horsepower badger with this one in about 10 minutes! Beacause the plumbing situation is identical on this model, I simply twisted the old one out and twisted the new one iin with no need to deal with plumbing alterations or changing out the sink fitting. I rally wanted to upgrade to a better model, but that would have required plumbing that I didn't want to deal with or the expense of a plumber. Plus, we don't use this thing enough to spend another $350. The old one worked but couldn't handle lemon peels. This one does. It's kind of loud and took awhile to finish off a lime I just threw in there, but for the Black Friday price of only $118 (weeks after Black Friday), I'm very happy.

Installation was straightforward and simple.. I encountered NO problems with the installation, and would recommend this disposal to anyone. My only criticism would be that the disposal does not come prewired for plug-in to the outlet, but I used the one from the old unit. All else was perfect and went without a hitch. This unit is also very quiet.. So far, so good..
