Customer Questions & Answers

how to maintain badger 5

any steps to keep it from smelling bad
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, first make sure there is no yucky food stuck in there. My mother tried to put in chicken skin and it never ground up and just stuck to the side. So you can imagine.. But.. according to the documentation, you should grind some hard materials such as small bones, fruit pits, and ice. A scouring action is created by the particles inside the grind chamber. Grind peelings from citrus fruits to freshen up drain smells. Use a disposer cleaner, degreaser, or deodorizer as necessary to relieve objectionable odors caused by grease build-up. (BTW, never pour grease or fat in the disposer, or any of your drains.)

Should it be connected in a line under the control of a GFCI for safety or that is not necessary ?

Asked by: Anonymous
No!!! This is not an easily accessed receptacle that you plug into frequently or use for other kitchen or household appliances like those in your back-splash or wall receptacles. It normally will be on its own isolated circuit and operation is through an off/on switch above the counter and not by plugging and unplugging the unit. Your dishwasher may plug in at the same receptacle but it should be on its own circuit and does not need to be GFCI protected either. When servicing the duplex receptacle make sure the disposal circuit and the dishwasher circuit are both turned off or you risk electrical shock and serious harm.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BADGER 5 1/2 HP CONTINUOUS FEED GARBAGE DISPOSAL Same mounting system as different model I had previously, so I left old sink ring in place. 1/2 HP a little less than my previous, but still adequate. Works fine, no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Garbage Disposal I had this exact same model in under my kitchen sink for the past 18 years maybe. Anyway, a long time. After many years, it finally began rusting our the grinding parts. I was amazed to see the exact same one for sale on-line for only $79. Home Depot does not carry this model in the store. They have a similar one, but it's about $20 more expensive. I ordered this on line at the store with the assistance of a sales representative, so hopefully he got some credit. I absolutely recommend this model and don't see why you would want to pay more.

It works well but the instructions are not great. where to stick the allen wrench, that you have to remove the plug, etc. I installed it, which was easy once I saw a video online. And I tested that it ran but did not send any food down. The plug was still in place. My parents, living in the home with the new badger, paid for someone to come out and fix it. If the instuctions were easier it would have saved them $100.00. I think there needs to be a sticker on the system telling you to remove the plug, much like the stickers on batteries in toys that you have to remove.

The only upsetting thing I had was that it comes with NO CHORD. Was not aware of this. After going back and reading through the description more thoroughly I was able to find that it says no chord. But I feel this should be in big letters or somewhere more noticeable. Did not make any sense to me that this did not come with a chord and that you have to cut your old one off and splice it into the new one or go and buy a new chord. It was my only day off and I just wanted to relax and stay in the house and install this. But once I saw I had to replace the chord I had to get dressed and go to the store to buy twisties and electrical tape. Not sure why all the parts you need to do the job are not here in the box??

I am not sure how old it was but it started leaking from underneath and needed replaced. I chose this one because it was easy to install due to the fact it is the same size/dimensions and the price was lower than a lot of the other choices out there. If you are replacing one it literally only takes 15 minutes to install and that includes set up and clean up.

I have owned it a month and have had no issues. We moved and it didn't take long to discover the 1/3 hp installed be the builder lacked the power to do the job. This unit is moderately priced and lives up to the claim "continuous feed'!! It is quiet, powerful, and gets the job done. Installation is easy, even for the novice. I highly recommend ordering it on line (costs $21 less) and make sure you take a couple of minutes to watch you tube videos for more detailed directions on mounting the unit to the mounting ring. Manufacturers directions to this step or lacking. Unit exceeds expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Badger 5 installation It was upgraded from Badger 1 to Badger 5. It works smoothly. In installation, I took about 2 hours because I took a while to figure out a few steps to disassemble an old one. The last step to mount the min body to the sink was needed to have another hand to support.
