CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 2017 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Badger 5 Install. Replaced same This model was in our house when we moved in, house is built in 1995. I called InSinkErator and gave them the s/n from the old unit. They said it was 19 years old. Had never given us any problems till a couple months ago when it started leaking. Looked around for awhile (till my wife got tired of having a bowl under it). Found it at Home Depot for the best price compared to Lowes, Menards didn't carry it. Could have saved 5-10 online but like the idea of buying local. Ordered March 20, 1014, received it Mon March 24. Intalled Tue, 25th. Took about 2 hours but I did some other stuff while I had it apart. March 25, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by The housing cracks, drenching undersink area We have two houses, each with a Badger 5 Insinkerator. In both houses, the disposers developed cracks in the main housing that allowed water and sewage spray out into the area under the sink. One of the disposers was less than seven years old, and it replaced another Insinkerator that also failed due to a crack in the housing. Consequently, all of our three Insinkerators have developed cracks that leaked water and thus had to be replaced. Please see the photos below of the cracks. Because all three of our Insinkerators have failed due to housing cracks, we believe is not a question of whether an Insinkerator will fail in the future but when it will fail. These units are easy to install or to replace. It is interesting that the product's box says “The Choice of 9 out of 10 Professionals.” If, by “professionals,” they mean plumbers, the plumbers apparently love it because it is easy to replace and assures them of a steady stream of repeat business as the cracks mature! We paid a plumber $350 to replace our first Insinkerator with a Badger 5, and it had to be replaced again in less than seven years. Insinkerator’s website says that these units are made of “Galvanized Steel Construction.” Unfortunately, the main housing that is supposed to seal in the water is made of plastic. If the plastic were engineered adequately, this would be wonderful. But in this instance, apparently, either the design is flawed or the materials are not up to the rigors of garbage disposal usage. Insinkerator is an Emerson Electric Company. Emerson Electric is highly regarded and ranks 120 on the Fortune 500 list. It is surprising that such a respected organization would offer such a shoddy piece of merchandise. Our conclusion: if you want a disposer that is easy to replace, this is it. But if you want a disposer that will not have to be replaced, look elsewhere. March 24, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Here's why Badger 5 will leak. Here is why your badger 5 disposal will fail and leak out the bottom. An inferior metal is used and it eventually rusts through. See picture. January 26, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great value, easy to install and durable My 8yr old insinkerader Badger 5 started leaking from the bottom of the disposal unit (worn seal), so I ordered the same model I had Badger 5. Easy install, I used the same power cord from old unit, matched color wires and twisted on disposal unit onto collar lock (using the same in sink drain collar). Should last another 8yrs or so. Rated 5 out of 5 by Easiet Purchase and Installation in quite some time. My disposal died.... so I searched online for the same brand since the previous version lasted approx 20 years(just don't find that anymore). I used the label from previous model to search and found it was cheapest on Home Depot's site along with quick and free shipping-Whoo Hooo!! Ordered and received within 2-3 days and installed within 30 minutes. Nowadays nothing last longer than just a few years, while not being any lower in price? We've become accustomed to appliances becoming consumables and are not thinking about where all these consumables' waste will wind up? Need to get back to making things that last! Thanks for making a product that provides an effective use over a long period of time. Thanks December 10, 2014
