Customer Questions & Answers

Is here a reset feature on this model? I can't get my unit to run, although I hear it when I turn it on.

I retrieved a bandaid from the disposal which had fallen in by mistake. Now the disposal won't work. Any ideas?

I too had a disposal that would make a humming noise but was not working. It would then cut out after about 5-10 seonds and I could smell a slight burning scent that I knew was not a good sign. After using the alan wrench and manually turning it for a couple of minutes (there was a lot of resistance because I was dealing with pieces of glass) it freed up enough and I reset the unit using the red button on the bottom. It is now running with no problems.

I have a badger 5 plus now. Is this one going to accept existing drains, fittings and hoses already in place?

Asked by: Anonymous
You should have no issues swapping the 5 for the 900. I just replaced my 12 year old 1/2 hp badger and had no problem reconnecting plumbing. I just reviewed the product and gave an account of my experience installing the new unit.....look for "So far so good by Leon1954... Should be posted in a couple of days per the admin notice.

Does this Badger 900 come with the power cord? I've seen them sell elsewhere without the cord.

Asked by: claw
There is no power cord attached. The unit should be connected directly to the incoming electrical wire.

Badger 900 3/4 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 1445.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy replacement installation This was a replacement for an insinkerator disposal which was one reason I went with this brand. The disposal easily screws on to the prior disposal connector piece that was already attached to the sink. The only issue I had was that the black plastic disposal pipe that you attach to the side was a little too short to connect to the existing pipe configuration. Luckily I had a spare that was an inch longer. Buy one just in case. You can always return it. The unit is relatively quiet. I don't mind since a disposal is something you want to hear so you don't grind up your hand or utensils or leave the thing on because it is so quiet.

I am giving this product 3 stars because My old insinkerator only lasted 5 years and it needed replacing. Also there is not indication on the bad that this model does not come with a power cord, which is a pain when you get the box home and are trying to install and you discover that you need to go back to the store to buy the power chord. Also, the installation was somewhat difficult. I am no plumber, but fairly handy and the installation took about 2 hours. which ins't the products fault, but I wouldn't call it a "easy installation." Also I called company twice to get help and got no answer, so that was of no help.

The 5 was installed when the house was built in 1993. It developed a small hole in the side that leaked water. I can't complain after 23 years of use! This one seems a bit quieter - and hopefully will last as long as the first. The installation went smoothly - just be careful not to deform the black rubber washer when you put the side discharge pipe on. I had a straight pipe there and it leaked on the first go around because the washer had moved. Other than that - perfect install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Good Disposer Easy to assemble although it will take you much longer if it is a replacement unit. It takes at least a half an hour to remove you old disposer. You may have to replace old drain parts which can be frozen or will break when you remove them. Transferring your power cable to the new unit may take half an hour. Factor in a run to your favorite hardware store. Write down the serial number before you install the unit, you will need it to register your product. That way you won't have to go under the sink to get it once the disposer is installed. The installation instructions were very straight forward and easy to understand. The diagrams were very good.

After seeing a friend’s disposal that the rubber sink baffle was almost gone, it dawned on me that I’ve never changed a Stainless Steel grinding chamber disposal. I decided to splurge and spend the extra bucks and get a Stainless Steel grinding chamber (and made in Wisconsin) and take a felt tip pen and write date on motor when installed. When you buy faucets, disposals, ceiling fans, water heaters or anything you expect to last, ask them to run you off an extra copy of sales receipt (or make a copy yourself) and put it in a plastic baggie and tape it to item. Fold it ink side in because some inks fade. I also made a platform out of a ½’X24”X48” plywood and 2X4’s around the edge to effectively raise the floor in front of sink (and maybe 1 or2 anti-fatigue mats) and I realized I no longer complain about crawling under sinks. I took the extra effort to put in new flange/collar because it is so pretty.

I guess I got a lemon because it started making grinding noises after about a year and a half of light use and leaked after about 2 years. It worked great while it lasted and was very easy to install. I am torn whether the just replace it with the same model because I have the pipes lined up for this disposal but I am worried about its longevity.

This one is stronger and seems to work efficiently. The one we replaced was also an InSinkErator and worked well, one of the connections was compromised. A disposal is not a fun item, but definitely makes cooking and cleaning up much more efficient and pleasant.

I was able to install this Badger 900 as a direct replacement for an 11 year old Kitchenaid Custom 150 garbage disposal. I transferred the power cord and used the old Quick Lock Sink Mount for an easy installation. The drain connection matched up perfectly too.
