Is the Evolution Compact 3/4 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal comparable to the Contractor 333 3/4 HP?

If I purchase the Evolution Compact 3/4 HP, will all of the piping line up or will I have to make adjustments? I am a woman trying to change this out and don't see the exact Contractor 333 at Home Depot. Thanks

Food stuff collects on rubber collar. How can I remove collar to clean without removing desposal?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello Chris, This is Jim from InSinkErator. To answer your questions, if you look at the flange in the sink hole opening, about an inch down, you will see a "lip" on the flange itself. The quiet collar has a groove around the outside edge. The lip on the flange fits info the grove on the quiet collar. This is what holds it in place. To remove the quiet collar to clean or replace it, make sure power is off to the disposer, and simply pull it up and it will come out of the sink hole. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact our answer line at 1-800-558-5700. Thank you for your questions. Sincerely James Zurawski

is the evolution compact a stainless steel model

Asked by: slim
From the Insinkerator specifications: "34.6 oz. grind chamber with stainless steel grind components offers durability in a compact size" and "Stainless steel grind chamber: No". This is a household appliance, not an expensive heavy-duty commercial disposer. Having said that, my old disposer -- a non-stainless steel model -- went for 25 years before I had a problem (corrosion in the "throat" of the unit under the sink flange). I believe the Insinkerator will last just as long if not longer.

does garbage disposal weight matter?

Hello, my current garbage disposal needs to be replaced. It weights approx. 10lbs. I would like to purchase the evolution compact and noticed the weight is ~20lbs. Will the heavier disposal be a problem. I don't want my sink/cabinet to bend/warp/etc.
Asked by: Anonymous
Mike, obviously the proper answer to that question is going to be directly effected by the quality of sink that you have. When I installed this unit in my house, I didn't notice any issues with whatever weight differences there might have been. Bear in mind, the "compact" marketing is a bit misleading. I found the unit roughly the same size as it's predecessor. Although it didn't free up any extra space under the sink as I had hoped, it out performs the old unit and is comparable to 'larger units' with similar ratings. As for your concerns with the weight issue, I'd suggest that before you unpack the unit, just set it in the sink and see how your sink reacts to the weight of the box.

Customer Reviews

Evolution Compact 3/4 HP Continuous Feed Garbage Disposal is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 1944.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Garbage Disposal!! The Evolution Compact is a bit larger, more powerful, and so much more quieter than the Badger we were replacing that has served us for 14 years. Installation was fast and easy. My husband used his hydraulic jack to help lift and hold it into place while he worked. Everything you need is included in the box. I don't think you can go wrong purchasing this brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well made ... but size matters This unit is very powerful. Just as soon as you turn it on, get ready to turn it off. I give this model top marks in all categories but one. Unfortunately I don't think the entire industry is ready for the next step. This unit is listed as compact. I would not come close to describing it as such. Too me the diameter and height do not reflect the state of technology today. I don't know how much the cost would increase to implement more compact and powerful technology, but I would have seriously considered it at the time of purchase. For me space under the sink is a big deal.

A well-designed unit, good instructions, reasonably easy installation,,,,,although a second person to hold the top flange in place while you install the bottom flange & ring-clip makes it much easier. Extremely quiet! My only criticism is that the on-line description did not note that this disposal is appropriate for septic systems. I bought a septic-assist model (for about $35 more) for another house, thinking I needed it as that house is on a septic system. Turns out the Evolution is approved for septic systems (as noted on the box) , so I could have saved some money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good I'll start by saying so far it's great super quiet and powerful. I've only had it for a couple weeks and haven't used it much with a lot of remodeling going on. For something called compact it's pretty big with a new and deeper sink I had to make some plumbing modifications but int's in and works great. My personal opinion is for most home use you don't need a 3/4 hp disposer but to get the super quiet, auto reverse, multi grind and SS this is what you must buy. I'd like these things in a smaller unit and 1/2 or 5/8 hp. As I said this is just opinion, as for this unit it works great and I would recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Leaking at 6 years Disappointed that my disposal is leaking from the bottom after just 6 years of light use in a single-person household. All connections are tight and correct, and there is no leaking from sink or flange, so I can only conclude that an internal seal has broken or there's a failure inside the disposal itself. Up until now, the disposal has worked great. It's quiet, it doesn't clog, and it was easy to install. But 6 years is WAY too short a lifespan for a higher-end disposal. My previous Insinkerator lasted more than 20 years, and this was supposed to be a quality upgrade. Given how good most of the reviews are, I suspect I got a lemon, but it's still very disappointing given the cost and effort of replacement. More money down the drain - literally.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great grinder This is the best grinder I have ever had. It is extremely efficient at grinding anything I have thrown in it, including small bones and even potato peels. Additionally, it is incredibly quiet to the point that unless you are right next to the sink, you can't hear it over the running water. Installation was a 15 minute process, as my previous grinder was a very old InSinkErator grinder. There was nothing to do but twist out the old one, twist in the new one, reconnect the dishwasher drain, and plug it in. My wife thought I was a master plumber. I will probably never need to replace it (I'm kinda getting up there in age), but would do the same if I ever had to. I will recommend this to anyone looking to replace a grinder. Well done, InSinkErator!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything I hoped for This is a sturdy, reliable disposer. It fits easily under my sink in limited space, which is why I chose it over other Insinkerator models. To describe how quiet it is, the amount of noise it makes when it is grinding waste is comparable to my old disposer when it was turned on with nothing in it. The baffle contributes to how quiet it is, but I have not experienced any of the buildup of water or lack of drainage that other reviewers have described. Lastly, the handyman I used to install it took less than a half hour to do the work. The old disposer came off with a simple turn of the ring at the neck of the disposer, and the new one was put in with the same ease. Looking back, I could have done it myself and saved a few dollars on installation. Very pleased for the 2 months we have had it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much Better than the Badger 900 This disposal replaces the Insinkerator Badger 900 that I was totally disappointed in. The Evolution Compact has a removable baffle (the black rubber part that keeps the food from splattering out of the disposal) for easy cleaning. I am hopeful that being able to remove and clean the underside of the baffle will eliminate the odor issues I had with the Badger 900. I know it will be much safer to clean as I will no longer need to stick my hand in the disposal to clean it.
