Customer Questions & Answers

Is this disposal safe for use with septic systems as opposed to sewer?

Many other descriptions include ..compatible with septic. Need to know this before purchase
Asked by: Kate16371
Disposals are not normally recommended for septic systems - using one will require more frequent pumpings. The system will need to be oversized if you use a disposal. BTW answer is based on a system in Massachusetts. You should check with your Board of Health or the New York Dept. of Env. Services for their requirements or restrictions.

Batch Feed

Is this a "batch feed" model?
Asked by: SRP
Yes. It only works if the stopper is placed in the drain and turned to activate the switch. It can be straight hard-wired, but I have always wanted a switch as a safety precaution if something falls into it and I need to fish it out with tongs or even my hand...I want to make sure all power is off (and don't want to have to go to the breaker box) to cut the power.

Wall switch needed?

The video says "there's no need for a separate wall switch", but the pdf installation instructions say "This disposer requires a switch with a marked “Off” position (wired to disconnect all ungrounded supply conductors) installed within sight of the disposer sink opening (1 hp minimum rating). So...which one is right? Does this need a switch or not?
Asked by: browntown
Not for this one.

What cord/accessory kit is compatible with this model of garbage disposal? Are there any additional parts/accessories needed for the instal?

Asked by: kestrel
You can use a length of Romex or other three conductor 12 gauge wire and a three prong plug to wire this unit for use with a standard electrical outlet if you already have one under the sink. I you do not already have an outlet under the sink, then you would have to find a way to hard-wire this unit to a source of power (using an electrician to do this would be the safest course of action).

Evolution Cover Control Plus 3/4 HP Batch Feed Garbage Disposal is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 523.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Features are good but the design not so good Replaced a 2008 Evolution model with this pro cover model which required me to reconfigure the entire waste water drain lines. The lower drain outlet on the disposal created a space problem under my sink and in the end the only way I could match up the waste lines to the wall bend going to the main drain stack was to reverse the trap. Also had to make adjustments to the waste arms. In addition, I don't like the fact that I no longer have a rubber drain cover should I not elect to keep the stopper/motor activator in the drain opening. My 2008 model was quieter as well. I love the fact that with these models I don't have to use a wall switch to operate the disposal, but I did prefer the design of the earlier model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice, does the work well We had Insinkerator earlier, we installed it in 2001 and it just broke in 2017. Not even broke. It would not stop. That was the problem. The previous model was not as wide at the base and had an option to grind in two directions. That is a drawback for us. We had to cut cabinet underneath in order to fit the new Insinkerator into an old place. Also, it seems that it needs more time to grind then the one we had before. Overall this is a very practical and convenient way to dispose of food waste, potato peels and so on. We hardly have a small bag of garbage per week. And it is not smelly and all is dry. I do not know how people live without Insinkerator. I would recommend it to anybody. Top control is the best. I would not go for the one with the switch.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as good as it used to be :-( I purchased this product in replacement of an Insinkerator model Pro 17 that I owned for 17 years. The old one was still grinding great but it had faulty switch that were replaced 2 times under the 7 years warranty. Since this device had 17 years and that these switches are expensive to replace, I decided to buy a new one of this brand. I'm disappointed by the performance of the new device. It's quiet and the new magnetic switch in the cover seem to be a better design than the old one but the disposer doesn't grind the food as efficiently as the old one. It very often left food inside, even after a long running cycle. This is especially true for onions and other hard to shred food. My old one was a beast and was eating everything in a few seconds. Not sure why they change the design of a fantastic product. I'm very disappointed by this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We are very pleased with the unit. It is much quieter than the previous one we had. As stated above, we are very pleased with the unit. The expense and trouble of installing a wall switch are avoided. It has all the power required and it's very quiet. The cover, because of the magnet, is a little awkward, until you get used to it. We highly recommend this model.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product... very quiet. We were a little hesitant about the install because we were changing brands of disposals, but it installed easily enough. It seems to work really well and is very quiet. All in all I am very pleased.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice machine Extremely quiet compared to my last machine. However doesn't grind or drain as well. Though I'm still satisfied.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safety first I admit to being frightened of disposals. Yes, I am the one with small hands who is always asked to fish dropped stuff out of a disposal. This batch disposal was installed by a plumber in our new home ... I had the single switch, common one, removed. I do not have to worry that a disposal will eat my hand because I have had to remove a dropped spoon. When we purchased our previous home, I had my first experience with a batch disposal and decided that I would never have a kitchen without one. This disposal is very quiet and efficient. One reviewer commented that it was very large but I found that it does not change the storage under my sink for cleansers, etc. It does not operate unless the cover is secured.
