Answer:
Katy, my answer is "Yes", I bought an InSink Erator Jam-Buster Wrench. It cost about just over $6.00. I used it, and swore I will not let it get out my toolbox. The Erator Jam-Buster is simple and easy to use. The directions are simple and right on the back of the package. It does give little, but valuable advice if the directions don't meet your needs. The directions met mine, and saved my money.

Answer:
I think you probably could use the allen wrench, but the design of the jam-buster wrench gives you a "handle" to turn with. I think it would be difficult to get the torque you need with just an allen wrench.

I tried the allen wrench and none of them fit my disposal. The Jam buster works and it costs only $6.99. I taped mine to the garbage disposal for future uses. Great tool to have. I just wrote a review on it today.

Answer:
Yes, you can use any allen wrench that fits. I didn't have one big enough so I bought the jam buster. You know it;s going to be the right size for the garbage disposal because that's what it's for. It was $6. Worth it if you don't have or know the correct size wrench.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 62 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Did its job Basic allenwrench that did what it was designed to do. April 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The replacment disposal had one in the box! But if you don't have one, you need one just in case.... Leave it attached to the disposal...just in case... If something gets 'stuck' and causes the garbage disposal not to spin, this wrench can save a call to a plumber. Use the wrench to clear the mechanical jam, rotating in both directions. Just make sure the circuit breaker in the disposal is not tripped.... Another of my reviews - - - I needed to replace my daughters old (~10 year) garbage disposal of a similar design and chose this one to minimize the drain hook up PVC pipe changes. Also purchased at the same time the 45° Allen wrench aka. "InSinkEratorJam-Buster Wrench" to remove the old disposal from the mounting collar. Opening the box I found a wrench in the box, thanks Badger. I returned unneeded one I bought. March 1, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good equipment Easy to use and cheap. got the unit running back in no time March 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by So glad I have this tool Having this tool has made it so I do not have to call a technician to fix my garbage disposal. So glad the technician told me about this wonder tool. February 16, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Did the job, busted the jam. Once I was able to crawl under my sink, the actual unjaming of the disposal was easy. July 14, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Perfect Jam-buster Garbage disposal was not moving; inserted jam-buster in the hole (in the bottom of the disposer) and with a turn of the wrench, it was free. Couldn't have been easier. January 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Did not work for me! I'd only purchase this wrench if the jam occurred recently. Otherwise it's stuck solid and you better off replacing the waste disposal. December 22, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Garbage Disposal Un-Jammer I was going to have to buy a new garbage disposal. I spoke with a HD man, dreading his answer. He said to try this $8.00 tool first. It worked! I told my sons and my sister about how easy it is to use and how helpful Home Depot was. December 29, 2015
