Customer Questions & Answers

Can I wire this with a plug and use the230 outlet I already have? its on a 50 amp breaker and set up for a welder.

Asked by: JohnL
I disagree with the other poster about the need to swap a 4 prong socket out for a 3 prong. If your 50A socket is a 4 conductor type (e.g. NEMA 14-50r or similar) then you've likely already adapted your welder to work with it. Yes, the compressor uses 230v and does not need the neutral to form 115v circuits. You will want to cap off/tape off the neutral ON THE COMPRESSOR CABLE. You can do so at the plug if it's not molded to the cable or you can isolate it at the compressor end. You do need to be cautious about 50A feeding the compressor wiring which is likely undersized. Be sure to use a cable rated for 50A in case the motor bearing were to seize up or a winding shorts, etc. This could result in prolonged high current over 30A yet insufficient to trip the 50A breaker.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good selection if you need a solid long lasting Compressor I run Ingersoll Rand compressors, both single and dual stage, in three different shops. They are solid performers day after day. Accessories are easy to find, quality is very good, dependability excellent. Safe and efficient, they are relatively quiet for a large compressor, and are much quieter if you install rubber pads under the legs. I would give the knod to the single stage 5 HP model when using high volume tools over the dual stage, though both have their advantages. Recommend purchase of a regulator and filter kit with this or any other air compressor, significantly expands the fuctionality of your compressor by being able to accurately regulate air flow.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good heavy duty home compressor I would give it 5 stars except for one problem that would be so easy for the manufacturer to remedy. There is nothing provided to pick it up once you unbolt it from the pallet. They could add some pick up hooks or rings to the tank for a way to rig it to pick it up. If you try to rig it around the motor, or compressor it is off balance and you cannot pick it up staight with a really good chance to do damage to the fan guard or other parts. The rest of it is well made, quite and very powerful. It does everything as described and is a good compressor for my work shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of equipment and the best price. I use this compressor to run several pieces of equipment in my brewery and it's performed flawlessly. It's not too loud and it keeps up with demand easily. Plus, The Home Depot price was $200-$400 less than all the competitors I priced out, not to mention free delivery.
