When we bought our copper slate flooring, it came with an attached foam underlayment that is about 1/8" thick. I think it still has that, but I will have to check on that myself, as I plan to extend the flooring into an adjoining hallway. I would suggest going to home depot & checking out a sample. I hope this was helpful !

Answer:
Underlayment is required for Innovations Copper Slate. Not only does underlayment serve as an insulating cushion for laminate flooring, it also acts as a sound barrier. In addition, underlayment will support any uneven flaws in the subfloor.

Do I really need the "Accutite Wedge" kit for installation?

I already have a pull bar, tapping block, and spacers. I'd rather not purchase the wedge kit if I don't need to.

If you have all of the other products that you list I would say NO. I did make my own spacers out of some 1/8 MDF that I had left over from a previous job.

I did not have a "wedge kit". I did use a tapping block (piece of laminate) with a rubber mallet and the pull bar was needed under overhanging cabinets. Spacers are "very necessary" or the floor will relocate itself at the worst possible moment!

We saw no need for it.... just use a piece of "scrap" flooring to use as a tapping block... leave about 1/4" space around the edges ( near walls) and use some moulding to cover that space. You're going to LOVE this floor! Ido!

We have installed it in a large kitchen & adjoining den about 4 yrs. ago & now are extending it into a hallway. We never purchased a wedge kit & it wasn't a problem. The tools you mentioned should work just fine. Enjoy your new floor !

No,you don't need this Kit,you can find pieces that will work for you just laying around as scrap.Don't expect this one to install as easy as other laminates,it takes a bit to get the hang of it.But on the positive this laminate takes quite a lot of abuse and easy to keep clean and everyone who has seen it praises it for it's looks

The picture shows a square with 4 individual squares and the size is stated as 11-3/5 X 46-3/10 so is each square roughly 12X12 or 6x6? I plan to put this in an RV and do not want large pattern squares.

Unfortunately, any laminate flooring really should be installed over a clean, sound, solid and fairly level surface. While removal of carpet is a messy job (I've had to do it myself to install an engineered wood floor) the extra effort would guarantee the best performance the manufacturer intended for his product, and avoid the possible separation of joints due to flexure by traffic or dips and voids due to the weight of heavy appliances over time. Since glued-down carpet is difficult to remove, you might give the manufacturer a call with the specifics of the condition and thickness to see if his design would tolerate those conditions. Answer:
you can but not recommended, depends on the rug if the laminate flooring you put down has to mush movement it will most probably unlock and perhaps separate . i notice where I didn't sand the floor and left it unlevel has a lot of movement more than I would like its just a small area I got ahead of myself I may have to redo it and sand the floor. Nothing separated but it does float up a bit high.

Answer:
NO, you want your existing floor to be solid. The carpet will need to be removed and the floor scrapped clean of the glue, or you can apply a underlayment down after the carpet is removed.

Answer:
Thank you for your question about the Copper Slate laminate flooring. Our laminate flooring like all laminate flooring is not recommended to be installed over carpeting of any sort. Carpet provides too much padding and will allow the floor to buckle which would lead to premature wear of the floor.
Thank you for your interest in our product.

Customer Reviews

Copper Slate 8 mm Thick x 11-3/5 in. Wide x 46-3/10 in. Length Click Lock Laminate Flooring (22.27sq. ft./case) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value for Price Flooring has a nice finish and looks good when installed. It is much lighter than the photos but I expected that from other reviews. The finish is a light gray with some pink veining. Installation is hard to start, but once you get a couple of rows going it's easier. When you start to install, the end seams tend to separate on one corner which makes it impossible to install the next course of tiles. What I did was temporarily tape the first course of tiles together with duct tape, then put something heavy (another box of tiles) on top until I got the second course completed. Same for the second course - once I got the third course going it was smooth sailing from there.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks very good. Product was probably not to fault but over half a case had smashed ends. You have to use a new set block to tap in joints. After 200 sg ft, you may need another new block. The veneer can chip easily if the block you are using becomes worn and slips or it can smash in the 'lip' , preventing a neat and closed seam. The end result was attractive.

We installed this flooring in our laundry room over an old ugly vinyl floor, it was a breeze to install and it is beautiful. With this pattern there was very little waste. I would recommend this flooring.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great floor at a great price! This floor is thick and installs easily. The boards link together very tight and it takes only a bit of tapping on stubborn ones to make it seamless. I used a rubber mallet and a piece of connecting board as not to damage the connections. I did need a magnifying glass to read the instructions. No surprises in there either. Be sure to use new saw blades as this stuff is very hard. I burned up 2 10in table saw 200 tooth blades on a 440 sq. foot room. I did have to cut 75% of the boards though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The final results are well worth the effort We are well-pleased with the final appearance of this product in our kitchen. The panels are manufactured very precisely and fit tightly with no visible cracks at joints. We had several people to assist with engaging the interlocking panels which must be carefully assembled. We found it advantageous to use a piece of scrap flooring as a tapping block to close any hair-line cracks without damaging the grooves. In tight spaces we used a flooring pull bar. Once assembled and adjusted, joints were virtually invisible. Care in installing the first three courses is important to success. The finished surface is textured and in color resembles cut, grouted limestone. The surface seems hard and abrasion resistant, but the panels cut easily with hand or power tools. We were aware that the product color is lighter than the web picture and chose this flooring based on its actual shade.
