Can I pour this directly into the toilet?

The downstairs toilet is the only issue I have. Last time I called a plumber who charged me $190 for 10 minutes of work. Will this do the job or do I need to get a snake?
Asked by: Homeowner
No you cannot pour directly into your toilets. You need to pour it in a sink, tub, or other drain.

Does this product dissolve tree roots?

Does your liquid cleaner dissolve tree roots in pipe?
Asked by: Darla
From the horse's mouth [http://scotchcorp.com/product/main-line-cleaner/], and my own issues with tree roots: Clears sewer and lateral lines - Our Main Line Cleaner is a non-acid formulation intended to clear main sewer lines and interior lateral/vertical lines of *all* obstructions. Though you may need to do a secondary application and then maintenance with products that are intended to inhibit root growth 1-2x's per year.

Is this safe to use to clear mainline clog that connects to a septic system?

I believe I have a mainline clog, as the toilets in the house are not flushing, and tub/showers in the are draining extremely slowly, with excess tub/shower water backing up from the base of the toilets. The house was built in 1972, and has a septic tank. In the product description, it says safe for septic systems, however in one of the answered questions, it is advised to use a septic tank product instead of this product. Please clarify if I can use this product to clear a mainline drain clog, that connects to a septic tank system.
Asked by: DL
Thank you for the question. If the problem is the Main line drain then Main Line Cleaner is the right product to use and safe for use with a septic system (just don't use more than 5 gallons at one time). If the problem is the septic tank, then you need a product specific for septic systems. I hope this answers your question, if not please call our helpline 1-800-614-4252.

The main line from our house was clogged, and the plumber said it would cost $400 to fix it (Roto Rooter). So, we tried this product over night. Actually, we used two bottles and put it in the floor drain in the basement. The drainage was slow, and would sometimes overflow on to the basement floor when it could not keep up. After we pored in the two bottles and waited 12 hours, all worked well!!!!!! I'm still amazed. I tried this product because there was no risk.....it's free if it doesn't work. Looks like I won't be getting the two gallons for free!!!! It worked Great!!!!! I'm happy to pay! I'm amazed!!!!!

We've had issues off and on for years with tree roots, and I had used Root-X last April after the plumber cleared the line, so I didn't understand the issue coming back last week. I tried three different drain cleaners (including two bottles of sulfuric acid - safe for PVC), a drill powered auger, a closet auger, checked both vents (me up on a ladder on a two story house - that was nerve racking!), and after two days, I finally bought this stuff. I let it sit overnight, set the timer to get up at 5.20a to pour near boiling hot water in the toilet and the bathroom sink closest to the main line (four large pots - two in the loo and two in the sink - SLOWLY), and it worked!!! I was hesitant to believe it at first, but after flushing one toilet, then running the washer, and then flushing another toilet, all with no burps or back-ups, I became a firm believer.

I bought this after having a main line clog that was backing up my kitchen sink, shower, toilet and bathroom sink. I was skeptical as a plumber AT Home Depot told me that the only thing that will work is a big professional drain snake. I poured the first bottle down the shower drain and waiting 8.5 hours. This did not clear the clog. I poured boiling water down the drain, then ran hot water for a few minutes and it filled back up. I then poured a SECOND bottle down the left side Kitchen Sink drain. I let this sit for around 11 hours. Worked perfectly. The clog was gone, all drains worked normally. 100% worked on a tough clog using 2 full bottles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works! With patience... It took two days and two bottles, but this stuff works. Don't waste your time and/or money on other methods (physical or chemical). If you have a clogged line, this will fix it if you are patient. Saved me a hefty plumber bill.

I had a stubborn drain line blockage somewhere downstream of a basement bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) that also drained the kitchen upstairs. I had tried plunging, a bottle and a half of Draino Max Gel and a bottle of Zep over a two day period and could only get the water to drain down over a several hour period. Bought this Instant Power Main Line Cleaner at HD, slowly poured the whole bottle down the shower drain at about 7:00 PM and about 9:00 AM the next morning poured a pot of boiling water down the kitchen sink. Went downstairs and no backup in the shower stall. Ran more hot tap water in the bathroom sink and shower and everything was flowing better than normal. This worked where the other products did not!! I'll keep a gallon on hand from now on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It worked for me I had a tough clog that a plunger couldn't handle. I bought a 25' auger and that didn't help me either. The clog must have been really far down the line. I poured a container of this down the pipe under my kitchen sink and let it sit for 24 hours. After the 24 hours I ran hot water down the sink and the clog was still there. But after plunging for maybe 60 seconds, it dislodged. When this happened before, we had to call the plumber. So this saved us a bunch of money.
