Incidentally, this was in the master bath; we also have a powder room downstairs and two full baths upstairs... a total of 7 sinks of which mine in the master was the only clog. Suggest you use a double dose and let it sit (work) for at least a full day as I did. Otherwise you'll literally just be dumping money down the drain. Read Less

Our house was built around the same time (late 60s) and we did not have any problem with this product. The active ingredient, sodium hydroxide, is very harmful to animals and plants, and may damage glass but has little effect on plastic and no effect on iron pipes.

use a snake first - chemical removers can be dangerous to use or snake the pipe while still full of drain cleaner. I always prefer to use mechanical means first - for hair , I like the the zip rods

I did not have to use a snake after using this product. My bathtub was clogged with hair and one cup did the trick. I did allow it to work for about 10 hours and then used very hot water (tea kettle amount) after using it.

Yes, I had a tough hair clog in my bathtub and it cleared the clog. When I tried to snake beforehand, nothing would come up (guess the clog was too far down), but there wasn't a need to snake after either. I used it at night around 11pm and at 6am flushed it with hot water. Tub is like new again.

No it only breaks down small particles of hair. If your drain is clumped with a year long amount of hair it must be removed by snaking the drain.

No it will not. But if take your time and follow the directions and pour at least 2 applications of this product it will work. YOU MUST USE BOILING HOT WATER TO FLUSH OUT THE DRAIN.
This is all I use now to maintain my drain system and it works me.

No, it is not a quick-acting "minutes" declogger (unless you have a very minor clog) - generally needs to sit for at least several hours up to overnight. It is, however, a FANTASTIC and EFFECTIVE declogger. I highly recommend this product, just be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions to the letter and allow it time to work its magic.

Today I just use this to clean my bathtub drain. When I pour it into the drain, it splashes around the stainless sink circle where sealant is applied to seal the sink. Will it break down the sealant or caulk and cause my bathtub leaking?

Answer:
Hair and grease drain opener should not damage the sealant or caulking. But if you are worried about it, you can put some vinegar on a paper towel and wipe where Hair and Grease touched. Vinegar neutralizes the active ingredients in the drain opener.

NOT TO MY EXPERIENCE...the stuff DOES what it needs to do and so far it is the BEST drain cleaner we have EVER USED !
A tip too...
FILL YOUR BATHTUB with HOT HOT water after letting the stuff sit in the drain OVERNIGHT and then pull the plug (be sure and STOPPER the DRAIN BEFORE you start to fill the tub with HOT water)...
It also helps to do this without drain cleaner once a month or so...

Answer:
I don't know if I could answer your question as it all depends on the caulking type and manufacture. However I suggest that when ever something like this happens you rinse with cold water to dilute it and rinse. The caulking might be able to chemically resist this we don't really know until we try but this is best applied right into the drain hole

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Happy I wish I had bought this a year and a half ago when I first started having plumbing issues...I live in an upstairs apartment...my tub takes an hour to drain after a ten minute shower...much better then the 6 hours I had to wait at one time...my bathroom sink fills up when you wash your hands...that is only 2 minutes and takes 30 minutes to drain...the toilet backs up and drains extremely slow...and then the bowl never fills up once the waste goes down....after one day of use...nothing goes down the toilet that does not belong...we even make sure the lid is down to insure nothing accidentally falls in...we have to plunger the toilet everyday....it only takes one quick plunge without much strength to get it flowing...it's happening on a daily basis...I have used industrial strength and brand name everything even products for septic tanks...in the sinks and tub and even the toilets and put a hair catcher in the tub...and even made sure that any grease or oil from cooking is poured into glass jars and the pans wiped out with paper towel and put into the trash...even have cute little duck debris catchers on both sides of the kitchen sink...and yet I still have drain issues....I bought three bottles of the hair and grease drain opener...so if it worked I could give one to my sister and the other for myself since I live in an apartment...you never know how other people live or take care of their plumbing...I poured 3 cups in each drain...let it sit for an hour and rain hot water in each sink and tub at the same time for 15 minutes...and the tub which usually fills up half way up your ankles in 10 minutes...didn't fill up...whatever water did collect drained in a matter of 2 minutes or less...I'm still going to use my hair catcher in the tub and debris catcher in my kitchen sink....but this stuff definitely made a HUGE difference...you can't use it in the toilet...however, clearing the other drains I'm hoping will help prevent toilet issues...now that I have it working properly again...I would definitley recommend this product....don't waste your money on plumbers until you have tried this drain opener...a plumber is two hundred and up...and usually plumbing problems occur during the after hours when plumber rates are double...better to spend ten dollars on one bottle...then if you need to, then call a plumber... Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The best! I had a clogged bathroom sink and NOTHING worked! I used a snake, Draino max gel and pro strength Liquid Plumber... nothing. There was a sink full of standing water, no drainage at all. I bailed the water out and flushed and bailed to get rid of the other chemicals I used this according to directions still standing water. Dumped the rest of the bottle and still nothing after a few hours. I threw a pot of boiling water in the sink and went to bed. This morning the drain is completely clear and the drain works as it never has before. September 4, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Pretty Much what everyone else said... We had a sewer clog and the downstairs stall shower was filled with water (and other bits)... When the water finally worked its way down, I poured some of this stuff in and let it go overnight. This morning (a few minutes ago) I poured two kettles worth of boiling water directly down the drain. Then I ran some additional hot water. Glad I found this stuff and that everyone took the time to review it....So far so good. August 18, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by FINALLY A SOLUTION THAT WORKS My tub has been clogged and no matter what I tried nothing worked. I went on the home depot website to see if I find something different and came across this product and after reading all the reviews I decided to try it. I poured 2 cups down the drain as per the directions and I let it sit overnight. In the morning I poured boiling hot water in the drain and everything went down smoothly. This product definitely did its job and you can't go wrong with the price. August 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Can't believe it!! This works. Impossible tub clog. Took hours for tub to drain. Followed directions 2 cups of this, left overnight, dumped large pot of boiling water down and worked great. Thanks to everyone's reviews I purchased this. I've never had one of these products work before! August 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by The only drain cleaner you'll ever need. Forget Draino or anything else, this stuff is all you'll ever need for unblocking drains. I work at the Depot and this is the sole product I recommend to our customers. August 28, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent While others do not work, it just works as it advertises. I used it for my bathtub. That's it. August 16, 2016
