Answer:
Yes. The timing electronics are controlled by the battery you install that comes with the unit. You can install the battery and do your settings before you place it in the wall and make your wiring connections. Since the unit runs off the battery, there is no disruption in the event of a power outage as far as settings.

Answer:
The battery powers the display and timer. So a power interruption should not affect it. Because there is no back light the battery should last several years.

All program settings are kept in ROM. read only memory, and will not be lost if the power is out or battery is dead. So, the switch will continue to keep time and turn the relay on and off even with your electricity out. Of course fhen your lights will still not work. To maintain the time and date settings the battery must be replaced when the low battery indicator is on and you have about a minute to replace the battery after you remove it to avoid having to restore the correct time and date. Again, you will not lose the programed settings. the switch basically runs everything from the battery and ROM memory you have programed in and just switches the line current on and off. That is why you can program the switch in your hand, before connecting it to your wiring. Read Less

For the timer swt., the cutout is a "rocker switch" size, 1-5/16" x 2-5/8". I installed my swt in a 2-gang box, the other swt an 'old-style' toggle switch. I found the right switch plate right off the shelf at Home Depot.

Yes, you can press the cover for manual on/off usage. The cover is over and hides the programming buttons. You can pry it open with a fingernail to get to the programming buttons. Otherwise it acts as a push on/off light switch.

This timer is completely powered by the battery and does not require or use power from the connected wiring. A blank screen usually indicates a bad battery, no battery, or poor connection(s) to the battery.

15-Amp Heavy Duty Astro In-Wall Digital Timer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 82.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Replacement for 20 yr. old timer After a month of use, I love the astro feature! Here are a few things I learned. 1. It does not adjust daily. My astro feature changes about once a week in September. 2.The dawn and dusk times can be adjusted. Mine is set to go on about 15 minutes before dusk and go off 15 minutes after dawn. 3. It is difficult to hold a flashlight to see display, press buttons, and read directions or watch video all at the same time. Use a headlamp or get someone to help. 4.Compared to my old Intermatic Model SS7C, the click when it turns on is very noticeable. Overall, I am pleased with this timer. It is so convenient to set it and let the timer do the work.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works without neutral wire The most important feature for me is that this timer does not require a neutral wire. Installation was not hard and it works well so far. Instructions on programming are not very detailed; if you make a mistake, it does not explain how to correct it and whether a total reset is required. Also the "random" mode is not explained in the instructions. Fortunately I was able to get answers quickly by calling Intermatic tech support. The display screen is small so not easy for me to read the settings. Astro feature is also nice and I hopefully it will adjust well as time shifts for the seasons. So far no problems.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bought As Spares for 5 Year Old Units The were bought as spares for my current units that have been in service for slightly over five years. They work well but there are things I wish were better handled. The instructions to program the units are poorly written as are the connection instructions. You need a flash light to view the screen as it has no light of its own. The seasonal change for daylight savings is random within maybe two weeks of the actual date. They "snap" loudly on and off. Each unit has a battery for no apparent reason, I mean ... they are in a live AC circuit. I think the battery is backup for power outages, but that's silly ... the power is out. When you pull the battery the screen stays active. Just a bit confusing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Internmatic ST01 Timer was easy to install and met the requirement of not requiring a neutral. Pr... Internmatic ST01 Timer was easy to install and met the requirement of not requiring a neutral. Programming was easy if you read and follow the instructions. There are YouTube videos demonstrating programming as well. I configured the Timer to operate in a Dawn to Dusk mode setting the Sunrise and Sunset times using Daylight Savings Time. The timer is working perfectly. The only issue is that the cover door is only held on by two small tips. This is a potential breaking point because of the tip size especially if you are not careful when you open the door. I do recommend this timer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best in Class The robust backup battery and the seasonal dusk-to-dawn timer sell this product the best. It is fairly easy to program. It has a daily option to just have it come on at dusk and off at dawn. It automatically adjusts the on-off time to match the daylight savings time and the change of the seasons. Don't get stuck with another brand with a skimpy internal battery backup which dies in as little as 3 hours. The backup battery in this model is replaceable from the front and is a robust battery. It is also very easy to wire into place and makes no running noise at all (very quiet).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well After some bad luck with the Defiant timer, I bought this one. Made sure it was working and programmed before installing. I didn't want the lights on from dusk until dawn, just a few hours in the morning and evening. This timer does that. Turns on about 5:30am and off at dawn. Turns on again at dusk and off around 10:00pm. My only gripe is a minor one - when turning on or off, this unit makes a distinct click. It's about as loud as the piezo that lights my gas stove. At first, this was welcome because I knew the unit was working. It has gotten a little annoying.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great product Overall product is great. A couple of minor issues, display is hard to read, need a flash light to read display at times. also instructions on setup of dusk to dawn feature, couldn't totally be figured out. Was able to set dusk, but had problems setup dawn. I had to set an actual time for patio light to go off. that worked fine.all and all product does what it's suppose to do, not having to manually turn light on and off is great. We'll see how the DST feature works when time change goes into affect, would definitely recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flexible Programming on/off events Great flexible product in terms of being able to program just about any on/off timing you want. Dusk/Dawn to daily events based on daily "actual "sunrise and sunset times. Program it once and you're done, no need to adjust based on times of the year. One key point, this unit is based on on/off event programing which gives it's flexibility vs getting locked into defined event schedule. I did have to call customer support to help program since the instructions are not very good, however, they were great and very helpful.
