I want to use this as a dedicated timer for 4 or 5, 15 or 20 amp outdoor outlets for outdoor decor like x-mas lights. All outlets in turn would be on a dedicated breaker. Is this possible? Is this safe? Is there a cheaper or better way to get all my lights to come on and turn off at the exact same time on a residential level?

Assuming you are using the 125VAC timer, it is used at our school for the outdoor night lights. As long as your lighting current draw is not more than 90% the rating of the contacts of the timer, you will be OK. It is preferable to run not more than 80%. Assuming you are using the 125VAC timer, it is used at our school for the outdoor night lights. As long as your lighting current draw is not more than 90% the rating of the contacts of the timer, you will be OK. It is preferable to run not more than 80%. The x-mas lights will be no problem if using LED unless you are entering a lighting contest with thousands of lights. If you maintain the current rating, this is safe and less expensive than individual timers at the outlets. Also, less work if loss of power to reset the time. If you have never done this before, it would be better to hire an electrician. If you have a main breaker for the panel, just shut it off and do the work yourself. Yeah, it will require turning off everything in the house and reseting all the clocks, but electricians are expensive. You will have to pull the 12AWG (hot) load wire off the breaker and wire nut a black or red 12AWG wire to the load side of the timer. Run a black or red 12AWG wire from the breaker to the line side of the timer. Also, 12AWG green (ground) and white (neutral) wires will be needed from the breaker panel to the timer. Just connect the new wires to the same bars with the matching colors. Make sure the connections are tight, but don't have a gorilla tighten them. If this is being done outdoors, you will need liquid tight flex conduit and connectors to run the wiring in and a rain tight enclosure for the timer. Also, you MUST HAVE GFCI receptacles or a GFCI breaker for all exterior outlets for safety. Parts will be expensive, but it will last for years.
