I bought this before Home Depot carried it, around late 2012. I mixed up a gallon of it and it still works fine even in 2016. It has turned a rust color since, but it still has the same effect that it did when I first started using it. So even though it says it has a certain shelf life to it, if you're simply using it to patina wood, well, it's good for many years. I store it in an outside storage closet Read More

Answer:
It's organic - natural minerals that bind with the resins in the wood which is why it's best for cedar, redwood, pine. When mixed with water it's inert and should last for some time.

I kept some solution in my tank sprayer for several weeks. I used a little the other day for some spots that I had missed. It seemed to work great. I think the color of the solution got a little darker over the past few weeks. Looks like it works the same, however.

It's said to be all organic and non-toxic, so yes, it should be just fine for that. You can find more information on the manufacturer's website.

Answer:
I use this product on ALL raised beds, but not so much for the staining properties but for the preserving properties. The minerals react with the resins in pine/cedar which protects against rot. It doesn't stop rotting, but certainly slows it down. I've used this product for over ten years. I never use traditional stains anymore on fences, raised beds, railings, lattice, etc.

Answer:
It makes no sense to use this 'eco' friendly preservative on PT wood that is already chemically toxic.
This should be used on 'natural' wood to preserve it for non-toxic protection. I am using it on framing for a raised garden bed.

Pressure treated wood is already "cured" so apply when you want. I suggest you also make sure to saturate the ends of wood planks as well as the four surfaces.

Hello, I would like to know if a waterproofing sealer can be applied over this product. I would like to use this product on a bathroom mirror that may come in contact with water and will come in contact with moisture. I see that the product is not waterproof and is not a sealer.

1-gal. Exterior/Interior Wood Stain and Preservative is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Warning: Do not use on wood that you'll be walking or sitting on if you have it tinted. Warning: Do not use on wood that you'll be walking or sitting on if you have it tinted. We had ours tinted cedar tone and used it on a very large deck. Now, even after several weeks, whenever people walk on it, we have tracks of cedar tone tint showing up on the bottom of feet, shoes, and therefore, ends up leaving a trail leading into the house on the carpet. Just yesterday, my daughter had friends over. They were sitting on the deck, and the bottom of their shorts were stained in cedar tone. Very frustrating. Our little, white Westie dog can't even be out on the deck, because he turns cedar tone. We really have a mess on our hands. Praying this problem diminishes over time. As other reviews have indicated, the real test and results of this product cannot be determined at this point. Only time will tell. I do know that I'll never use it on wood where there is traffic again.

It did not go as far as I thought. I might have sprayed it too much but it did say to soak the wood. I also wish you did not have to order it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Wasn't what I expected I misunderstood how this product would work. I was trying to make pine look like old barnwood quickly. It ages wood over time and protects it. Wasn't what I needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used to treat our raised garden beds We built four 4' X 6' Douglas Fir raised beds for our garden. We chose not to buy pressure treated wood because of the chemicals used to treat. Eco wood treatment is natural and will not harm our veggies. We applied the mixture using a lawn/weed sprayer. It applied evenly and quickly. As a result, we made sure to purchase 2 gal boxes. We went through an entire gal on the first coat and used the second gal box to apply a second coat, esp on the inside of the bed, which is in constant contact with the soil. It dried very quickly. We really loved the color! The only caution I would advise would be to lay a tarp down under the wood you are treating. We sprayed these boxes on our blacktop driveway and it did leave an orange/rust colored stain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EASY weathered wood look in an instant! My good friend, a high-end faux finish painter/artist, told me about this product. He works on estates in Santa Barbara, Montecito, Utah, and Newport, amongst others. He said this product was easy to apply, was eco-friendly, protected the wood, and never needed to be re-applied. I figured it was worth a try on our newly built kiln-dried douglas fir arbors. I was trying to achieve a weathered wood look and protect the wood without having to re-stain every summer. You mix this product with water and it becomes a rusty-colored clear solution. Applied with a brush, foam brush or sprayer, this product goes on easily and with no mess. We didn't need a drop cloth as the product doesn't affect concrete or stucco. Immediately, we noticed the brand new wood patina before our eyes to look like it had been there for years, weathering and aging. Amazing and gorgeous! It matches the Restoration Hardware look that we love. It has since rained a few times and the wood continues to age and change ever so slightly. Love it. I've since used it on our raised redwood planters, which turns the wood a very dark silvery grey. Used on our old Costco playhouse which was once stained honey, it now looks like an old log cabin. I plan to use it on furniture and indoor projects next. LOVE THIS PRODUCT.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Product! I used this for my raised garden bed which I made out of Douglas fir. Wanted something organic. Mixed up easy, went on very easy. Really soaked into the wood. I did two coats. Looks great - makes the wood look like it been there for a while. Has no smell at all. I would give it a 5 but can't comment on how long it will last.
