Can You drive over them?

This question is from StealthFlow Low Profile Downspout Extension

I need something to carry the water from a downspout on the up hill side of my driveway to the lawn. It's a distance of about 15 feet. This would traverse the driveway and we would have to drive over it or be able to move it easily, once or twice a day. I'd only need it in the Winter when the runoff from the downspout pours across the driveway and freezes at night.

Do you recommend this product as a solution to my problem?

What if you brace either side of the downspout with 2x4s, then you can drive over the 2x4 and not damage the downspout.

Would not drive over this product with the weight of a vehicle, however, it would only take you seconds to move the product out of your way and a few seconds to reattach.

I think if you watch the little video that's online here at HD website is show 's it can withstand being run over by a SUV. The video is right where this product is. I think you can get a better idea to your question there. Hope this helps.

Answer:
Due to the material that the downspout extension is made of, no you cannot drive over it.
You'd need to either remove it when the car is being used, or do a more practical but more labor intensive option of burying it under the driveway.

If the downspout is already pointed towards the street you will not need the elbow. Otherwise the elbow is needed.

Answer:
I have 2 that I use with the elbow. I looked up the product on the webpage since I do not have the packaging and I think you almost have to use the elbow. Downspouts are square (almost) and the extension connector end to take the water away from the house is a flattened oblong.

I believe the entire unit from the downspout to the end of the devise may be that long. You may have to pull the elbow joint out all the way.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 103 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well to route water away from foundation. After having foundation issues, was told by engineering firm that I needed to route all my gutter downspouts to discharge about 10 feet away from the foundation. The stealthflow was easy to attach to my existing downspouts and the extensions let you make the discharge as far away from the foundation as you like. These are not thick-walled plastic that will stand up to driving a vehicle across them. But they are fine for walking on or pushing a lawnmower across. They are about 2 inches tall. So I dug out a shallow trench so that the extensions are flush with the ground so that mowing over them is easy. I like these because they can stay in place and I can mow over them instead of having to move big plastic hoses around every time I mow. July 19, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by These are great! My neighbors put these in their yard and I liked them so much, purchased them too. Easy to install and they help keep mulch where it is supposed to be. July 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works well The extension was easy to assemble and works well. June 24, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by These solved my erosion problems I was having problems with erosion where my downspouts emptied out on sloping areas. I was looking for something to spread out the water stream and slow it down. I used these to do just that. I have purchased 3 of them, and am about to order a fourth. The Home Depot website videos from the manufacturer were very helpful. June 25, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Second one. This product is real easy to use, no downspouts to trip over. June 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Downspout extension lightweight but durable. easy to install and did a good job in moving the water away from the house. I have tried others but not only was this cheaper but worked better. June 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good purchase for diverting and dispersing gutter discharge Pros: Overall easy to install Cons: However, it's not obvious that plastic tabs for securing to bottom of gutter require folding out. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Downspout Extension Easy to install (my wife did it). We used additional extension also (available online too). June 24, 2016
