Customer Reviews

37.5 in. x 81.5 in. Craftsman Classic 3/4 Lite Painted Oil Rubbed Bronze Clear Wrought Iron Prehung Front Door is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous door. Worth every penny. I recently installed this door on my home that is going through renovations. It is a really nice looking and sturdy door that is very well built. The product itself gets 5 stars. THE ITEM DESCRIPTION, AND SHIPPING ARE ATROCIOUS AS IN ZERO STARS TERRIBLE. Pros: Super heavy duty. No one is breaking into my house, at least through this door. It would be easier for them to break through my brick walls. I love the ability to open the window to let the air in. Once installed it opens very smoothly and has a ton of wow factor. Cons: all negatives are related to installation and items they should tell you BEFORE you buy the product like maybe on the item description? The product itself is amazing. 1. Shipping is terrible. It arrived via freight damaged. There were a couple of scratches and a large dent that chipped the paint off. The chip was a good 2 inches long. It is way too heavy and cumbersome to try to return to a store so Home Depot offered me a discount to keep the door which I accepted. 2. Iron Doors Unlimited sent me a touch up paint kit with instructions to repair the dent and chip. It included going out and buying bondo. I'm somewhat handy so I got the bondo to cover the dent and giant chip. The touch up paint kit is useless. The sheen doesn't even match the door finish. The paint they sent me is glossy and the finish on the door is matte. The color matches but the spots I repaired are shiny and blatantly don't match. In retrospect I would've figured out how to exchange the door until they could get one to me in perfect condition. I was able to get the paint blended in but cost me $125 to have a professional do it, not to mention the time I wasted trying to do it myself. 3. Iron Doors Unlimited needs to post the installation requirements on the product description page so you can make sure you have the proper rough opening before you try to install this beast of a door. My old front door had a regular wood frame with the rough in just cut into the brick. Well it turns out this door requires pretty heavy duty lag bolts to be drilled into the frame which didn't work for me since my "frame" is 100 year old brick. My contractor had to do some major rigging to get this stable including pouring some concrete into my rough opening to give bolts something to drive into. 4. HUGE DEAL - this door is thicker than a standard door by maybe 1/4". This is important because a standard knob/deadbolt will not work. I wanted to use a Schlage touch screen door handle thing so I had to buy an extender kit to get it to reach all the way through the door to the other side. Again, THIS INFORMATION AHEAD OF TIME WOULD"VE BEEN NICE. 5. I wish it included a screen to cover the window. I'm sure they could've figured out how to work this into the design. I can always get a screen made for it but not one that will allow me to shut the window with the screen still installed. I'll have to leave the screen nearby and just throw it in every time I want to leave the window open and then take it out and put it away when it's time to close the door. Fortunately it's not very buggy where I live so I'll probably be ok without a screen. 6. If you live in a cold weather climate (I'm in Denver) they will make you sign a waiver saying you won't sue them for damage to your floors due to condensation. Since it's a metal door I expect it to experience some condensation but not much since we're so dry here in CO. I'm also fine with this since I use a floor mat at my front entrance. I'm probably crazy for spending this much money on a front door but I've never seen anything like this and it adds a lot to the front of my house. Plus the peace of mind it brings in terms of security is great. I really hope anyone wanting to purchase this door reads this review and knows what they are getting into because there were a lot of not so good surprises throughout this entire process. For most people it may not be worth the effort but for me, having a totally unique front door was worth the pain.
