You should be able to use "identifiers" that mark units as "individuals" to select different units via the mobile apps. But the last time I used the mobile apps they were a mess. But things "may" have changed. But things "may" have changed. You can, though, connect to each one via their individual IP addresses that they use to connect to your local network through a web browser on any device that is on your local network. That's what I had to do. Not sure of your reason for using two of these, could be valve location, but they do make add-on adapters to increase the total number of zones, I think it is, to 48.

Yes you can name the different controllers and each will have its own IP address on your network.

Answer:
Yes in the local mode each one would have a different IP address and on the cloud.irrigationcaddy.com you can have both different locations and different contollors at each location. I have even started/checked/stopped watering my home from a train or on a airplane via the web.

Answer:
The app can be configured to add multiple controllers, so you should be able to do this.
The other option could be to buy 1 controller and then add expansion units if you just need to control additional zones. Each expansion unit can control 8 new zones, but if you need to add more than 1 expansion unit then you also need an expansion hub. Not sure if Home Depot stock these additional items.

Answer:
The IC-W1 zone capacity can be expanded to up to 43 zones by adding expansion modules (EXP-800). The expansion modules connect into the “Expansion Port” for the ICW1.
If you wanted to have multiple Irrigation Controller, then each one would need to have it own SSID, much like the name of your SSID on your current router is different than your neighbors.

The vendor indicates there is now a v1 and v2 of this same IC-W1 controller. Can those who recently received it comment as to whether they received v1 or v2?

Answer:
v2 is the current factory version. If you have a v1 they upgrade it for you for a small fee. You need v2 to running the current firmware.

Answer:
V2 is the currently version. I have had both my V1 upgraded to V2 for the cost of freight ($15.00 for prepaid return freight, you must pay your fright out), at the time there was no charge for labor but you needed t upgrade to support the newer firmware.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Doesn't last, hard to program Bought this a little over 2 years ago and now the internal timer doesn't advance. So its shot. Now I have to buy a new one and the hassle of installing and learning new system This unit was always hard to program and when you think its programmed, it comes on at wrong time because program was wrong. Sometimes even when the program is correct, it does wrong thing. Only reason I purchased was because it handles many zones. I suggest going with a more basic controller and it should last more than 2 years. August 4, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor support Had issue with unit connectivity and support..no response after weeks of phone and email..do not buy! June 26, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by DO NOT PURCHASE Simply said: This unit is terrible. Can't connect to the controller reliably without resetting the unit. Can't connect via the cloud without a major understanding of networking. Tried to reach out to the company for help but there is no phone number, only an email. They NEVER got back to me. The product sounds nice, but it does not work as it should. May 27, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible The Irrigation Caddy is horrible. Plain and simple. It is too expensive and works too poorly for it to be worth it. The user interface both on the computer and smartphone is totally horrible and doesn't work well at all. I have had it for two years and it has been a pain the entire time. Unless you understand computer networking very well and how to connect everything, it will be almost impossible to get it to work right. Even if you understand it, it still doesn't have a slick, easy to use program. April 16, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Seems too good to be true. It's not true . . . Although I got a really great deal, once up and running this unit did not perform as implied or advertised. Since that, I was offered a "freeish" (I pay all shipping, including prearranged return) Firmware upgrade to a v2 model by sending it to the manufacturer and once I got it back, I had to update the software, that should have been done on their end, to fix bugs from the newly upgraded firmware. The update installed even more bugs or didn't fix ones as it was suppose to. The user upgrade process is like that of the early 80's, nothing like the ease of electronics today. Illogical, convoluted and cumbersome. Once updated many problems. Tech Support is right there with simple problems that can be easily fixed. But more monumental of their own doing, good luck getting any substantial help. For the price this unit should be WaterSense approved and with better Tech Support, but no. The mobile device apps are haphazard at best, using a web browser and it's local IP address is far easier, but very restrictive in offsite remote control. The WiFi connectivity is mediocre at best. I had to buy a larger antenna, that unfortunately they chose to use an uncommon connector that does not have the standard center pin that one finds on most all U.S. communication devices. I had to get an adapter that would allow the use of "local" common after market antennas which only got in the way of "upping" the range a bit. But it worked. In the end the antenna was bigger than the unit itself. Set up, although it's suppose to be easy through any WiFi enabled device, I had to use a laptop and direct connect to get past many quirky set up issues. The UI (User Interface) is pretty but lacks many useful features that are the purpose of a unit like this and is pretty glitchy. No real weather station interaction that does you any good. Response of the UI is not optimal and there is no way of telling whether the system has fired off other than looking for a wet lawn. I have seen several similar foreign made units on Alibaba and others that use the same box and display panel. So I have a feeling this is an industrial clone. Tech Support is there when it's easy, but not when you really need them. I just replaced this unit with a far more expensive unit that, with most all I am finding, has its drawbacks, but it is WaterSense approved so I can get a rebate to help ease the cost. Just hope it works better than this one. The only real advantage with the IC-W1 is on the spot remote control. No hypertechy features that one would expect for this price. I was planing on pawning this White Elephant off on a neighbor that has a really bad controller, but am really concerned about ruining our friendship. May 28, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Customer support is terrible! I will begin by saying that the produce itself is fine. I don't have issues with how it works. The customer service is terrible. This product is not ready for prime time. First of all, it constantly disconnects from wifi and then won't connect back up without going through the process multiple times. They don't offer a phone number to call for support - only email. Their response to email support is days or more. After trying for the past several months to make this work, I am going to a different product. February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent controller I have had nothing but excellent support from the folks at Irrigation Caddy. I had a few questions that were promptly answered before purchasing it. Simple install and works well. I especially like that it's a stand alone unit that doesn't require connection to a remote server. You can utilize a cloud connection, but it's optional. Whenever I invest in home automation, I want to ensure that the unit will continue to function, even if a company's server is down for whatever reason. September 4, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install Very easy to install. Works great. I did have to google how to set up the cloud feature. Highly recommend! May 23, 2014
