When using the extended stand, does the umbrella sit on top of the lower securing bolt and then get held in place by the top one? There does not seem to be anything for the umbrella pole to sit on, other than letting it go through the entire base and rest on the ground. This would make my umbrella too short.
Asked by: JR
No, the umbrella pole goes all the way down into the base and you can tighten both screws against the pole. The pole does not sit on the ground. It's a very nice heavy stand.

50 lb. Classic Cast Iron Patio Umbrella Base in Bronze is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly made Base looks like it was cracked then welded/patched before painting. Upright pipes would not screw together Threads covered in paint/finish and not deburred. Home Depot personnel suggested I get tool and fix myself. Too heavy to drag back to store and wait for replacement.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rusted and broken in 3 months I bought the 80-lb. version of this exact umbrella stand, and it rusted out and broke in three months. This stand does not have threads on the bottom of the tube which holds the umbrella pole and normally screws onto the base, but rather a crosspiece attached inside the bottom of the tube through which a bolt is inserted through the hole in the base and fastened with a nut. So the tube just sets atop the base and is held there only by the bolt. And it was unable to withstand the off-centered weight of a 9-foot umbrella at a tilt - resulting in the crosspiece breaking and rendering the whole thing useless.
