Product Overview

JELD-WEN V-4500 Series Vinyl Windows offer extraordinary architectural features that add to the aesthetic value of your home all the while providing superior energy efficiency and durability. Essentially a horizontal version of a single-hung window, the sliding window has one moveable sash that slides left or right alongside the fixed sash. Nail fin frames are ideal for new or replacement construction in a typical wood frame structure - commonly referred to as stick-built construction. Nail fins can be easily removed for pocket or block frame installation into wood, concrete or masonry walls with little disruption to the interior and exterior trim. Coated with a microscopic silver layer, LowE insulating glass lowers energy costs and helps homes stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter by reflecting sunlight away from the home in hot weather and heat back into the home in cold weather.

What the clear opening in a window for egress?

Asked by: Jan
Thank you for allowing us to assist you today. We are sorry to report that this window does not meet general egress requirements. To meet egress, a window must comply with IRC required measurements: 2nd floor and above: Clear opening width ≥ 20" Clear opening height ≥ 24" Minimum clear opening sq.ft = 5.7 sq.ft. or larger First floor (grade) egress requirements: Note: Does not apply in all jurisdictions. Clear opening width ≥ 20" Clear opening height ≥ 24" Minimum clear opening sq.ft. = 5.0 sq.ft. or larger This window does measure 20.937” clear opening width which is wider than the 20” required and it measures 31.812” clear opening height which is taller than the 24” required. However, it does not meet total square footage. The overall clear opening square footage measures 4.625 sq ft which is smaller than the 5.7 sq ft (2nd floor) and 5.0 sq ft (1st floor). For additional assistance please review the egress calculator on our web-site at: http://www.jeld-wen.com/professional/tools-education/egress-openings-calculator .

What is the clear opening for egress?

When fully opened with the screen removed, what is the clear opening (width x height)?
Asked by: Highclass
Thank you for your inquiry. The clear opening on this window measures 4.625 total square feet which does not allow it to meet IRC Egress Requirement of greater than or equal to 5.0 sq. ft (1st floor) or 5.7 sq. ft (2nd floor). Additional measurements are as follows: clear opening width is 20.973” and the clear opening height is 31.812”. JELD-WEN has a handy egress calculator on our web-site that provides egress information on nearly all our products: http://www.jeld-wen.com/professional/tools-education/egress-openings-calculator.
