Product Overview

JELD-WEN V-4500 Series Vinyl patio doors offer extraordinary architectural features that add to the aesthetic value of your home while providing superior energy efficiency and durability. For a more modern appeal, sliding patio doors offer maximum views and save space where swinging doors are not feasible. Nail fin frames are ideal for new or replacement construction in a typical wood frame structure - commonly referred to as stick-built construction. Nail fins can be easily removed for pocket or block frame installation into wood, concrete or masonry walls with little disruption to the interior and exterior trim. Coated with a microscopic silver layer, LowE insulating glass lowers energy costs and helps homes stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter by reflecting sunlight away from the home in hot weather and heat back into the home in cold weather. Local building codes often require stronger, safer glass to be installed where there is a risk of people bumping into it, such as patio doors. To meet these building codes, glass must be tempered (or heat treated) so that if it does break, it breaks into small, dull pieces rather than razor sharp shards that can cause serious injury. Internal mini-blinds, or blinds between the glass (BBG) are window treatments built between two panes of glass. This means they never need cleaning, don't bang around when opening your door and have no chords swinging in the breeze as a safety hazard tempting small children and pets.

I try to raise my blinds and the lever snaps out of place, so the blinds only raise little less than halfway.

The picture for the left hand opening shows the outside view with the door handle on the right hand side. Is that correct for a left hand opening door, or should the movable panel be on the left hand side.

Answer:
Thank you for a great question. The handing on this door is considered to be “XO” or “Left-Hand”. This means that the operable/sliding sash in the door is located on the right-side when viewed from the exterior. To open this door the sliding panel moves from Left to Right when viewed from the exterior. The second picture on the web-site is showing a graphic only of a Right-Hand door due to a mistake. Customer Reviews

Rated 3.1 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Magnet that raises blind failed in less than two months. July 5th's review is exactly what just happened to us a week ago. It lasted 7 weeks from install. Our warranty with the store has expired, since we weren't able to install as soon as we'd liked. Today I will call Jeld-Wen. The warranty appears to cover the product for 10 years, but I wish we could just replace it with a door without the internal louvers. This was a "new" install vs a replacement, so it's been stuccoed in. Hopefully they will be able to remove the window from the frame; it's not the slider side, unfortunately. Also, you really need to know the right/left side opening issue. The picture online shows the wrong installation. We ordered it based on the picture, not knowing what side of the wall the installation referred to. HD said they have no control over the web site and it happens all the time. October 12, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by poor quality I purchased this door and had it professionally installed on the back of my garage. I would estimate it gets used about 10% of what a normal patio door attached to a house does, which is to say it doesn’t get a lot of action. We picked the door with the blinds internal so you couldn’t see into the garage all the time. The door is beautiful and when it functioned it was great. After a little over 2 years (mind you this was 2 years of minimal use) the blinds on one panel stopped going all the way up or down – we were stuck somewhere in the middle. If I had to guess I’d say this blind was moved up and down maybe 50 times in the two years we had it and most of that was during the first few weeks when it was a novel thing – otherwise it was in the full down position all the time. I called jeld-wen and they said it would need to be replaced but it was out of warranty so it would be $200+. If it failed in full down I could probably live with it but halfway just looked stupid. Then to make things even worse my young son broke the glass on the other door (not the one with the broken blinds). He simultaneously hit the door with his pool squirt gun as he was closing it a little aggressively so we aren’t sure if it was the hard slide to the stop or banging it with the plastic toy but the result was an amazing piece of glass that was completely fractured and ready to fall out. Thankfully the safety glass did its job and didn’t explode out – It just fractured. Later I pushed it out so no little kids hit it. This one is $500 + to replace and have installed. Put the two things together and it is basically a brand new door. Given the issues we had I’m not prepared to spend that money on a product I don’t trust so we are going with a different brand. I can’t imagine if this was a regular use door like on a house to the back yard. We barely ever used it and it still failed in just 2 years. November 12, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Better then Pella Brought the door home. Had my contractor install it since he was doing the roof. It took about 5 hours to remove the old one and replace the new. The door looks great has a nice tight seal, a solid slide, the jam has an extra strong locking latch. The blinds are perfect. There was one issue the blinds in the slider did not match the stationary door. Called Home Depot. They brought out a different door popped out the slider and installed the new one the same day. Three things I will point out are; make sure you get a screen, I had to steal one off another door in the store. Make sure the blinds match. When viewing the door from in the house looking out side if you grab the handle with your right hand from the inside and it slides right it's a right hand door. All in all my contractor said its twice the door then Pella. Costumer service was great at Home Depot. July 12, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy Install but some issues we installed this door over the weekend and we lucky that it fit well inside our existing frame and sit in really well. we have been playing with the lock and slider all day. we can't get it to slide well and lock at the same time. it's almost like the door doesn't line up with the pre-installed lock piece. and the bottom corner of the sliding door doesn't fit inside, there is a sliver of sunlight peaking through right now. so there is a lot of fine tuning to be had tonight so that we can get it to lock! Maybe it's just ours, but it is kind of annoying. but it looks so nice and high end. and the clean white look without hanging exterior blinds looks so high end. March 3, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by very disappointing we've only had our door for a few weeks and the magnetic system that controls the blind has failed. we can no longer raise or lower one side of the door's blinds. very disappointing! I won't buy this type again. Beware! July 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by As Expected Comes with the screen, which many don't. The blinds move nicely and the doors open smoothly. No issues. October 21, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by The blinds break easy At the store the blinds were working but when I install the door I went to check the blind and it would not go all the way down. Very disappointing ! October 15, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A great replacement door. Solid and has all the features you need the door has been very good. It is well insulated and the interior shades work very well June 11, 2013
