Answer:
Hi Kitty,
Each board covers 6.25 square feet, so to cover 860 square feet divide 860 by 6.25.
Thus you will need 137.60 boards , rounded up that is138
boards.
Buy 10-12 extra boards to allows for errors and cuts.

2. Determine the height and width of each shape.
3. Multiply height x width to determine square footage. For triangles
divide the total by 2.
4. Add all of the square footage numbers together.
5. Subtract large items such as garage doors, large doors, large
windows, and banks of windows from total.
Do not remove small windows, doors, vents, or other small areas
not being sided.
6. Total all numbers. This gives you the total covered area.
You take the total and divide it by the exposure you plan on using (divide by 5 if you are going to use the 6.25 wide board) Be sure to add a 5% waste factor Read Less

Answer:
You can go over a preexisting siding as long as it is flat and in good shape. Remove and repair any damage portions and install a weather resistive barrier over the old siding. Otherwise you would have to remove the existing siding or install wood or metal furring strips to the wall.
