Answer:
If they're still compressed and dry they should be good to go. I've used some from the year before or two and they still worked fine. I don't know that they have an expiration date on them.

Answer:
It's a throw away after use situation when the plant's life cycle ended. If you haven't gotten them wet and pushed in seeds they should be good. They come dry and compressed and if you keep them that way there shouldn't be a problem. I often use some that are left over from the last year or two that I didn't use and they're inert until you add water and seeds.

Answer:
Over time peat will break down to dust however it takes many years for that to happen. I would test one by pouring warm water over the pellet and if it expands then it's OK. Hope this helps and our best to you this gardening season.

No, Garlic, but Jiffy does make them in the 50 mm size, they're just hard to find. Our problem is that The Home Depot doesn't stock the 50 mm Jiffy pellets on line or in our local store. You can get the 50 mm Jiffy pellets from growerssolution on line.

The box of 36 pellets seen above are the small ones that are used to refill our Jiffy 72 pellet mini greenhouse seed starting trays. I probably go through at least a half dozen boxes a year to refill mine. That figures out to be less than ten cents a piece per pellet to germinate a seed that probably only cost you a couple of cents and you can end up with a plant that would easily cost you four or five bucks.
The great thing about the Jiffy Pellets is that with a seed starting heat mat under your mini greenhouse with a fluorescent grow light above you can start your garden months ahead and have everything ready to go when the weather warms up. I love 'em. Read Less

Turning over the topsoil this year, some netting from last summer's (2015) pellets were still in the soil. Shouldn't they have degraded by now? Just wondering if I should remove the netting when replanting outside.

Thanks!

It just takes time they will break down: Most likely it got to cold for the micro organisms to eat it .

Depending on temperature and soil wetness I'd say no. The netting is what holds the expanded unit together. That's a good thing. They will decompose in your composter but it takes a while. Not to worry. I'd rather have the decomposing netting in my garden than a bunch of rocks.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great seed starting pods! When I use the Jiffy pellets and follow their directions I get 80 to 90 plus percent seed germination. Coupled with a seed starting heat mat and a humidity dome over the planting tray under fluorescent grow lamps I can usually get all the seeds to germinate. Without the Jiffy Pellets- good luck. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by These are not as big as I thought they would be. I bought these pellets online expecting them to be the same size as the ones included with the garden starter kit a few months ago. They are only half the size I was expecting. My bad for not making sure. The specs say they are 4" in dia. That is not true. June 7, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Useless These took 20 minutes to expand and molded after a few weeks. I would try soming else. April 29, 2016
