Customer Questions & Answers

How many spikes do I need per evergreen tree?

If it's based on the size of the tree, how many spikes do I need for what size trees?
Asked by: Bob
Would be nice if they had that available somewhere in the online information right? :-) Found the back of the bag at another site. Number of stakes depends on diameter of tree trunk. For 1-2"- 2 stakes, for 3"-3 stakes, 4"-4 stakes and 5" stakes. So looks like about 1 stake per diameter inch. Evenly spaced at drip edge. Also says not to put stakes closer than 30" to trunk.

We would recommend using our Tree and Shrub fertilizer spikes for best results. The evergreen spikes will work but are intended for acid loving plants.

I presume this the right fertilizer for "green giant arborvitae" and "emerald green arborvitae" which are evergreen trees. Questions: 1. My green giants are in pinestraw circles but I would need to drive those spikes in my bermuda grass lawn to be outside the drip line? Is that okay? 2. My emerald green trees are in flower beds and there are shrubs and other perennial & annual flowers within a foot or two. Is that okay?
Asked by: thebighash
Hi thebighash, Thanks for visiting our site! Yes, these fertilizer spikes are a good, convenient way to feed your Arborvitae. Measure the diameter of the trunk and drive one spike for every inch of diameter. Space the spikes evenly within the drip-line around the tree. Do not apply outside of the drip-line. The fertilizer is compatible with all lawn types, but you should avoid over fertilizing when adding lawn food to the area. These spikes will feed for about three months. Flowers in the area will also benefit from the spikes, so bear that in mind when adding additional fertilizer. Thank you for asking, -Travis

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Evergreen Tree Fertilizer This is a terrific product. I use a short length of 1" pipe with a cap on the end to prepare the hole for the fertilizer spike. A few bangs with a small sledge hammer and the hole is ready for the spike. I try to get the spike several inches BELOW the ground level. These spikes should be put into the ground as soon as the snow is gone in the spring, late March is best. This fertilizer will never be washed away and takes several months to dissolve fully, more it there is little rain. I use three or four for a 4' Yew tree, and perhaps 8 or 10 spikes for a large spruce tree. The result will be very dark green Yews and Spruce trees, and rapid growth by mid-summer. Your Evergreens will LOVE it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Even helps the grass! Installed these around my pines. Through the winter, when the rest of the grass was brown, there were circles of deep green where the spikes were installed. I ordered an extra package to grind up and spread on the entire lawn!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Received all I ordered - thanks! The fertilizer spikes (for my garden) seemed very old and crumbly. Looks as though they were stored far away and not ordered often. I also ordered an LG wash machine thru you but have not gotten any questions on that one.
