Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Pool Good sweeper, poor height adjustment
I've used this sweeper for a few years and it works well. My problem is with the height adjustment mechanism. In the first year it began to bend and the weld cracked at the cross bar. The mechanism is too weak to handle much load at all. In order to keep it working I now use a large clamp to keep everything together and straight. Unfortunately it makes using this otherwise great sweeper a real pain.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by tym1 sweeper works great as long as the ground is level, a high spot in the middle of the brooms and it will stall it again until the wheels get enough traction again. the light weight steel surrounding the brushes dents and bends easily so avoid any small stumps and rocks. i wish they would have used the poly instead of the steel. also i think it would be nice to just 'pull' a lever or something and shut off the brooms for crossing the driveway or sandy spot. all these issues i have mentioned are issues with all makes not just the 'JD', i will continue to recommened this model over all others for a long time to come.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Butch This is an awesome tool!
This is the best $300 I have spent! Although the assembly of the unit was a little tricky, it really only took about an hour, and storing the unit is a little onerous as it must be partially disassembled, all of that is worth it because the unit works flawlessly. It is very easy to adjust the height so that everything, including acorns, sweet gum balls and pine needles are effortlessly collected. It took less than an hour to clear our 1/3 acre yard of all debris. The only time the unit had problems picking up leaves was right after a rain, when the leaves were virtually stuck to the grass and ground. In that case, just a light raking to get the leaves up from being flat on the ground solved the problem. The unit is made in the good old U.S.A., and is a John Deere afterall! I highly recommend this for anyone who is tired of raking, as long as you have a riding lawnmower to hook it up to!

2 hour assembly is accurate.
Package is horrible, but everything arrived regardless of the condition of the box.
The pull string is useless. I get off the tractor every time I dump them to rake them into a bigger pile.
Overall I would buy this again and it is 1000 time better than raking.

Awesome. No need to buy a grass catcher, this does it; plus it captures leaves and sticks. It pulls grass clippings in and rolls them into a Ho-Ho a cake. Just pull the bagger string and it rolls right out. Take your time putting it together. I spent four hours because I wanted it perfect.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Fred Poor wheel gear design leads to early and excessive wear
The wheels have a plastic-toothed gear that drives a metal gear attached to the shaft that turns the brushes. Metal gears meshing with plastic gears reduces the life of this product to months. Since both wheels are gear-linked to the shaft that rotates the brushes any turns causes one wheel to attempt to move faster than the other thereby causing tremendous wear on the plastic wheel gears. Since turning is inevitable, the accelerated wear on the wheel gears is also inevitable. The teeth on the plastic wheel gears are "eaten away" by the metal gear attached to the shaft and in a short time, the wheels will not turn the brush shaft. Purchase this product knowing that you will replace the wheels every few months.

The assembly of this sweeper was somewhat difficult. The instructions and drawings could be clearer' The sweeper works fine'

Assembly was not a problem and the instructions made it easy.
My issue is that we live in the country and there are always small branches on the ground, so before you can start, you need to patrol the entire area and pick-up any type of potential obstruction. Also, when the catch bin is full, I wish there was a way to torn off the sweeper. My dump area for the leaves is several hundred feet from the yard area and with the sweeper continuously moving, it is bound to catch a twig or something that will bind the tire. Thus, I have to get off the mower and unclog it so can proceed to the dump area. The unit works great until I have a full load.
Possibly I should have spent the additional money and bought the bagger that mounts on the back and works off of the cutting/mulching process. This way I could simply stop the blade from cutting/mulching and simply go to my dump site to complete the task.
