Answer:
That is a loaded question.
It all depends what part comes in the box. if it's the part as listed in the picture here, then no, it is not the correct part (existing plastic chute should fit flat not an angle or need to be removed).
If the unit in the box comes with the straps on the vertical side #where the "48" is written) then it will fit correctly.
The part number is correct, but sometimes the unit Read More

Thank you for contacting the Home Depot website. The 48 in. Mulch Cover does an excellent job mulching grass or leaves. Remember you will have to follow the 1/3rd rule. Thank you for contacting the Home Depot website. The 48 in. Mulch Cover does an excellent job mulching grass or leaves. Remember you will have to follow the 1/3rd rule. No more than 1/3 of the grass blade should be cut off at one time. This allows more efficient mulching and will promote the continued good health of the grass. If the desired cut height can't be achieved by cutting off 1/3, or there is clumping of the clippings, it may be required to cut higher; wait a day, then lower the mower and make a second pass. Mow at proper intervals approximately every 4 to 5 days. This kit Controls clippings at all three blades effectively for improved mulching and more even distribution of mulched clippings. The plastic molded part will not rust and the mulching attachment is held in place with wing nuts for easy installation. Read Less

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worked for a year then... SNAP! Bought in July 2015. It's now a year later. The rivet holding the rear strap failed and the cover went into the blade. Bugger! This unit is only warranteed for 90 days because according to John Deere it is a ' wearing product ' that when in use becomes worn. Hmm... how does that happen to a stationary part... vibration I suppose. So keep this in mind when you purchase. But with that said it did the job it was supposed to do. I'm sure others have had better life span results then I. I am replacing it with a new one regardless of this issue. But if this fails the same way again... we'll wait and see... July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great Mulches great, close to edges.would recommend.not hard to install. September 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works great! Works great but did have to take off chute to install even though JD expert said you shouldn't have to. Chute would not go all the way down and would rub against wheel on the deck preventing it from turning free. August 9, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible item. Gave up on it after a few hours of use. Unfortunately, this appears to be the only place you can purchase a mulch cover from your John Deere mower. I mean the John Deere model. There are no other after-market ones available. This worked great the first couple of hours. Then I noticed it would no longer sit tightly against the mower and allowed grass to get around it and spray on your leg and foot. Plus, the grass get around it and leaves a row of cut grass behind and does not keep it inside the mower deck to be fine-mulched. It allows it to escape and really does nothing to help with the mulching process. It is made from the cheapest plastic you possibly could use (made in China, I'm sure), as it has already started to lose its shape. The rubber straps designed to hold it on are already stretched, leading to the problem of it not staying tight on the machine. After about five hours of use, this product is basically now useless. I am pretty creative and can rig most things to work, but this is beyond that. For the $30 plus dollars, sure not worth your money. Find another option if possible. August 1, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Over priced mulch cover product works but way over priced. I would of have expected this to be included in the bagger kit which was also overpriced? July 19, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Returned I didn't have the same set up on the deck that the instructions called for so it couldn't stay on. I have a 2015 d140. I took the mulched in for advice from hd and they started talking about drilling a whole in the deck. July 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Mulch Cover The cover was a very good idea and saves me from picking up the grass. June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Does the job. The mulch cover does a good job. It is a little loose at the rear, so I used a bungee cord to tighten it up. June 14, 2016
