Customer Questions & Answers

does the bagger need power from mower to get grass into bag?

Asked by: Anonymous
If you mean a Power Flow then the answer is no, It uses the air generated off your deck blades to discharge the cut grass in the bags

Does the bagger for a z225 also fit the z235?

Asked by: Anonymous
The hopper itself will and so will the upper and lower chute. BUT the Hopper Support will not. the z225 uses a straight post Y support for the hopper and the z235 uses a H bar support for the hopper The z225 uses a Pocket mount of the back of the mower, and the z235 uses a combination of a attachment bar and hitch plate.

Customer Reviews

Bagger for Z235 is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't waste your money This system has several problems. With any moisture on grass (even light evening dew) the chute will clog and leave the grass clumped on the lawn. Tapping the chute steadily will help with this but it will still clog. The chute is secured to the mower deck with a heavy duty rubber strap. This strap will rot and weaken with exposure to sunlight and over time. Replacing the strap on the chute is a chore that requires at least three hands since the end must fit over a rivet with a large head. A company with the reputation of John Deere should be ashamed to produce such an inferior attachment for their mowers. many of the reviews that I have read on this at other locations talk about the clogging problem, i am sure that if you live in a desert climate and mow often there is no clogging. Also most of the reviews are from short time owners. They have not had the joy of replacing the rubber strap.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy! We purchased the bagger, it is the biggest waste of money. We have tried EVERYTHING to get the bagger to work, always cutting dry grass. We lifted the mower height, lowered the height... to no avail. Husband sharpened blades, changed blades...to no avail. We have a large yard, I tried only picking up the grass just outside the front door...even one pass clogged. Truly, this is a very expensive attachment and it DOES NOT WORK. I have been searching the computer for some way to improve the bagging...to no avail. DO NOT BUY!!!! I would love to see some response from John Deere regarding this product. Our previous lawn tractor was one of the big competitor's. Their grass catcher worked FINE. Come on, John Deere, you need to step up with this one. I still can't believe we wasted so much money on this thing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from HORRIBLE PRODUCT! I agree with the other two reviewers - a company with a reputation like JD should be ashamed to offer such a horrible product. I live on a 1 acre lot in the middle of the woods. Prior years involved raking and blowing - very tedious and time consuming. I purchased this and it worked fairly well the first season (say picked up 80% of the leaves). This is my 3rd season and I have absolutely no suction whatsoever. The leaves are just being chopped and dropped on the lawn. I have followed all recommendations and troubleshooting tips - nothing has helped. I feel this product was a waste of my money. You also need to know that you need to remove the entire rear attachment whenever you need to add fuel, since you can't lift the rear seat (gas cap located underneath this seat# when it's attached. Not sure what brilliant engineer thought that was a good design decision or why QC didn't axe it before production, but it was not a good idea! As it is right now, I'm looking for an aftermarket product that is compatible with JD #hoping one exists). If that doesn't pan out, I'm considering selling my JD and going with the competition.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Always clogging up I bought a gator blade and it still clogs unless grass is completely dry. Poor design. Can't beleive John Deere would sell something that works so poorly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does a great job! The bagger attachment works best when used with Hi-lift blades. Do not try to mow when grass is wet. Any mower will clog with wet grass. I would not hire any lawn service that would mow when the grass is wet. My neighbors all tell me I have the nicest looking lawn around our neighborhood. The bagger attachment and Hi-lift blades are a big reason why! John Deere products are a very good buy and with proper care will last a lifetime.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from John Deere Rear Bagger Disappointment I agree with the majority of the other responses. I have been the "chief lawn care person" in our family and live on half an acre. When we purchased your tractor, we were allowed to pick one attachment . Since we live in a tree covered lot, we thought it was best to go with the bagger attachment. What a mistake!! I too, tried everything to get that thing to work properly. It is useless!! I have your spreader which works fine. Yes, I would not recommend this attach, ment at all. Sorry John Deere

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! Don't have a clue why these other reviews are so bad. I have mowed eleven times with mine, even wet grass with the blades that came with the mower. And not one time has it failed to do an excellent job! if these people think this is going to work on foot high grass they are wrong , NO mower will do that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from z235 bagger Review When picked up at the store the box is huge, and what i mean is one huge box with about 6 box's inside, this could easily be consolidated down to 3 box's ( overkill With Box's not including the wooden crate its attached to). I personally left the crate and the huge box at home depot and took the small box's. after unboxing everything and placing it in individual piles, i started the install which was straight forward, everything mounted easily except the bumper which will take 2 people ( ONE TO HOLD IN PLACE WHILE THE OTHER BOLTS IT UP ) It came with a set of high lift blades BUT i had already bought some and installed them, I found that the strap at the front of the lower chute was extremely tight when attached to the anti scalp wheel bracket. ( i have other john deere's and have never had one this tight ( will have to keep an eye on that one to see how long it lasts) The Hopper itself is nice, it uses automotive style seals to seal the 2 halves together. the latch works good and holds tight, ( wish all john Deere baggers where built with this Quality ) Today is 10/28/15 in Georgia and we just finished up 3 days of rain so i took it out to suck up leaves from the storms and it worked perfect not one single clog. the trick to bagging is go SLOW and be patient, you can't race around the yard and expect it to pickup.
