Answer:
Yes the D120 does have cruise control and the delivery team suggested that I use it because going slow for an extended period of time could cause the motor to overheat.

I mowed 1/2 acre and find the CC unusable on the D120.

Answer:
PTO stands for power take off. This enables you to use the power of the engine to run accessories that did not come installed on the mower. Examples might be a snow thrower, a yard rake, or possibly even a chipper or any attachment that moves but does not have its own motor.

Answer:
I don't think the D120 would be my first choice for mouting a blade and plowing, but you can get the snow thrower attachment which mounts on the front of the unit and I am sure would do a great job. throwing the snow to a more convenient location. I am considering going this route myself

I would get at least the d140. I have a d120 and I used the plugger on it and you can feel it slow it down.

Mine has a Briggs and Straton. Since I've only had it a month I think it is safe to assume that is the power plant currently in use.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 73 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality machine. This is a quality machine, I do not have a large lawn, but was getting tired of cutting it by hand. I have been impressed with how easy the John Deere D120 is to use. Very easy to operate. Makes cutting the lawn fun. July 18, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by This machine is what I needed. Cuts great, turning radius is great, engine vibration is minimal and clean up is easy. Down side is the little yellow button to allow you to cut backing up? Trying to hold button down and control the wheel is distracting. Engaging blades initially is rough but smoothes out. Purchased on line, details of delivery were not clear, surprised when local John Deere (6 miles away) called to inform me that my mower would be delivered. The concept of the "Break-in Oil" brought back memories when cars were sold that way 50 & 60's and I think the 70's also had break-in oil. Right now I am on 6hrs of use and after the next cut I will be changing the oil. The delivery person needs to provide better instruction then riding off the truck, indicating the latch behind the mower that disengages the ?? so you can push it without turning on the engine. After 1 month a follow-up from a John Deere or Home Depot representative to see how the customer is doing, any problems, etc.. August 13, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Cuts Great & Easy To Use! I have had this mower for about 4 weeks and have mowed with it 4 times. It runs great as I imagined it would, and the quality of the cutting it does is second to none. I have used many riding lawnmowers in my day, and can say with confidence that you will not be disappointed. June 4, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Nothing runs like a Deere! I have now had my Deere for two years, and in two years time I have had NO problems at all, and I mean at all. Some of my neighbors have gotten other riding mowers (newer than mine), they have already had problems. Mine starts the first time every time, cuts right (nice and even), hauls just fine and is very easy to operate. I might be a bit biased in my assessment, ok so be it. But all I know is this, that after two years my Deere is still running problem free. Now don't kid yourself I put this Tractor through it's paces, and it goes through it all. So YES I would recommend a John Deere to anybody with NO regret. May 14, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Do not buy this mower Do not buy this mower. I have had it less then 3 years and I have had to rebuild the engine twice. It isn't a John Deere engine. It's a Briggs and Straton engine. I owned a Murray before this and never had any trouble. Owned it for 14 years. My son has it now and it's still running. The dealer told me this is a throw away world. They don't make things like they used to. The mower itself is easy to use. I would try and buy one with a different motor besides Briggs. Maybe a kohler. June 16, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by First impressions After my girlfriend wanted to buy a riding lawn mower for her 3/4 acre hilly lawn, I suggested this mower to her. Comparing it to my (other than JD) mower that I bought from a client, I have these observations: Pros: Smooth ride; much quieter; tighter turn radius; clean level cut; foot pedals for forward/reverse Cons: Seat cutoff switch is too sensitive if you have to adjust your sitting position to avoid low limbs or lean too much on a side slope; using the catcher it is difficult to determine if the bags are full (requiring you to look behind you and seat cut-off may engage) Overall, I believe this mower to be far superior to my mower which was comparably priced. Oh, and one more con, now I want to replace mine with one like hers. April 26, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great mower and very good light garden tractor. We've used the tractor 5 or 6 times so far and are well pleased. The mower gives a nice even cut and our lawn is far from level. It turns tight enough to get around most obstacles and leaves very little for trimming, less than an inch from walls. A free 7 cubic foot poly dump cart came with it and it is great for yard work. Rep who delivered the mower installed the mulch cover and gave me a tutorial, answered all my questions. I wish there was an emergency disengage for the PTO but don't know of any tractor that does, certainly not in this price range. Of course, everything stops if you leave the seat. May 22, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by MAKE YOU MOWER A MOWING SERVICE. Just bought a JD D120 at Home Depot. It's great. Thanks "Walt" for the good advice. Now here's some more good advice. Buy the $275 3 year extended service (2 yr War. + 3 yr Ext. = 5 years) $275 for 5 years on a riding lawn mower ? Are you kidding ? BUY IT ........! I was a Manger at Sears for 7 years. These things break down and labor and parts are not cheap. Best thing about it though, is you have got a great company like HD standing behind it. The next best thing about it is PEACE. Lack of confrontation. When it goes wrong on you, just reach into your filling cabinet, pull out your folder containing all the paperwork and head for the store. Make your mower a 5 year mower service. June 13, 2011
